Through the Kuiper Belt...

Post by OccinticLady »

Hi all,
An other week, an other video...
This week, we need to pass through the Kuiper Belt. I dont know if that is the way one would do it....if there are any astrologically inclined souls reading this...please let me know if you van just fly through the thing
Anyway. I had a battle with that one. Yesterday afternoon, it looked as if I'd not make the deadline, but...I did...
In an other thread, I posted about the hiss in my recordings. Probably, they always had that, but since I grow in this art, I notice these things and want to improve quality.
The eleven tracks came out as a video....
As always...throw something, be that flowers or tomatoes  I take it all, as long as I learn from that :D
Lov ya all.

This is awesome space music! I love the idea of the different parts, making it a journey, telling a story.

Excellent soundscapes, loads of atmosphere and really nice use of distance/reverb.

Favourite: The arp in the "Turbulence" part.

Maybe the JM Jarre laser harp sounds at 0:30 are a bit harsh, I like them a lot, and maybe you want to signal that something is happening, but they don't blend in as nicely as all the other sounds.

Great work!

MusE DAW running on Debian 11 Testing/XFCE4.

Thanks you. The "harsh" Laser Harp is the point where the cosmic dust thins and you see the massive wall of stuff that the Belt is. Was not meant as hars but dramatic. I wanted to (indeed) "wink" at JM Jarre.
I yet have to learn "storytelling"...we'll hear next time.
Thanks for the feedback :D

Don't be to hard on yourself, I thought it was really good storytelling! Just a small detail. :) In fact, I will borrow your idea with the different phases of the story. :)

You're a smooth pilot. Only judging by the music that was amazing steering. :) The noise effect adds a lovely sptial component to the mix.

Very enjoyable experience, lot's of subtle audio movements, and none of the changes
and harmonies were distracting or out of place.
The image goes well with your music, and I felt like the image was always moving.
Is this a known graphic artistic tool?
The audio-video results are Very 8) Very

Well, as mentioned, there are four phases, the approach ends with a JM Jarre type "shock" as the whole Kuiper belt comes into view.
All of the mixing was done on QTractor, I was transisioning from 32 to 64 bit, so I had to make due.
All the synths are soft synthes, though. The arpeggio in the Turbubence was done with Seq24 (still looking for that big one)
Oddly, there are only four sounds:
- Strings that weave all the way through,
- A glassy sound I made
- The Jarre sound...
- A simple wind patch for the intro
For the rest, I allowed the different lengths of the sounds play out against each other, that resulted in a floaty ensemble...
I have got the Ardour 64 (and the long awaited plugins :D ) and know how to play the synths directly into Ardour while controlled by QTractor (MIDI on QTractor works best for me)
Yet have to figure out how to trigger Ardour to record from QTractor, but, I love a good challenge, I'll figure it out
The mixdown is done in QTractor.
The next track (tomorrow) is done in the 64-bit Ardour...dont expect perfection, I have yet to learn a ton
Thanks for listeninig, happy you liked it :)
Melissa
Edit - I remember I did pop it to Ardour, just for the delayorama...that is the waving you may hear...

The picture is static, it's something I think I found on pixabay :)

The movemens are the harmonics of the sounds that play with each other...makes for a great tappistry... :)

Love it, you have a great feel for this music. I even downloaded it from YT to include in my chillout playlist. 8)
To think you joined this forum only this year asking how to record in Linux, and now you are patching Qtractor into Ardour and creating beautiful pieces like this with softsynths.
