One girl, all alone (Noire electro)

Post by jeanette_c »

Hey hey,
this is "one girl, all alone" (lyrics at the end):
https://youtu.be/CudvZyI8FC0
Technical terms first: this saw a lot of live Csound (and it's NOT experimental) playing, using physical modelling. There's a slightly broken piano, a kind of violin patch, A piano like bass accent, the very ambient bell, vocoding and the melting reverberated piano in the bridge, as well as the processing of the RD-8 (TR-808 style) drums in the second verse.
LinuxSampler: with the real piano
Behringer Neutron and Arturia MiniBrute 2s for further bass, sequences/arpeggios.
Thematically, this track is about the experience of "cave syndrome" of feeling crassly separated from other people and lossing contact with the world. That was a bad moment there. :)

*** Lyrics to: One girl, all alone ***

Where all is void,
Just me in emptiness.
I have to make the world
From the ground up all alone.
Matter and a universe,
And laws to make them move.
Isolated islands
Are threatened by the dark of nothing.
I urgently must tell
All processes to be.
All the creatures lives
Must be allowed to dwell.
-
No rest, no balm
For the suff'ring
Of this mind.
-
Be my sun
And hold me in your gravity.
And I will
Hold you back
And then rest
my heart.

Breathe! Think! Go into overdrive!
Maintain continuity for live on this world.
And now to make an entity
For the "me" behind the thoughts.
Raise a broken body's shell
Inside an outside place
And pull a personality from
Sticky, broken pieces
Are all that's left behind.
-
No rest, no balm
For the suff'ring
Of this mind.
*** End of lyrics ***

Best wishes, Jeanette

Beautifully arranged and haunting! The piano-only minute at the end, in particular, is truly beautiful, and one more reason to envy your playing skills.

Thanks @Gps I take this as a big compliment. I can only say that this piece had meaning and wanted out, for quite some time. And Csound was just AMAZING! And don't worry: my next track will be quite different. :)
Thanks also @Rainmak3r for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have a feeling the piano solo at the end shouldn't have been there, really. I simply liked it too much to not do it and I don't have to sell it, so never mind the genre discrepancy. :)
It wasn't much in the way of playing. Those are simple chords, mostly, going through the progression or circle. Add some sustain and reverb, which makes almost everything sound loads better. :)

I've listened to this several times over the past few days, but didn't have time to reply. You painted a very effective moodscape with this track. It reminds me somewhat of early 80's gothic rock, like The Cure's Seventeen Seconds and Faith albums. I really like the piano outro.

I also think your vocal performance is improving. You might try deep-layering your vocal tracks with 3-4 tracks singing in unison. Your timing has to be really tight with that technique, but it gives your voice a depth and presence that is hard to get with a solo voice.

Is the string patch at the beginning a physical model done with CSound? Sounds a bit like a Mellotron, which is nice.

Very well composed, played and arranged :D

Thanks @basslint ! Yes, the string patch is Csound and it's thhree instances of wgbow with some vibrato and tremolo, some panning and a bit of reverb from within Csound. I think I also added another waveguide after the strings to fill out the sound.

You made me want to explore CSound more! Thank you :D
