New-Wave/Chiptune Track, "Out of Sight"

Post by matterisvoid »

Just a little track I made. I've been hesitant to share it since half of it was made in Windows. I started it in Linux, but I was given a nice laptop for work that I couldn't resist using for music production. Given that it's a work laptop I didn't want to install Linux on it, although I have been messing around with VMs.

Software used: Polyphone, LMMS, Synthv1, Padthv1, Carla, Autotalent, and probably several other random plugins

Interesting track. There are some interesting sounds in it. A nice mixture of more chiptunes and other electro. It's really missing a bass though. There's a big whole there. It doesn't need something really fat or overbaring, but something would be good.
The only other piece - of more personal - suggestion I'd have is to change the snare sound. It somehow makes the drumkit sound like a cheap MIDI synth. Somehow in style, but no cult. :) The kick is very nice, round and juicy though. It softens the edge of the bright and plasticky sound. I use plasticky in the best possible way!
Really: a nice fusion of genres, sounds and effects.

I think you're right about the lack of bass. The drum plugin was free, I'm sure I could look around and find a better sounding one.

Catchy tune. The vocal style reminds me of Owl City.

I really should make a chiptune someday. It sounds fun!

That's actually a great compliment for me, early Owl City songs are what mainly influenced this project!

I don't have any problem with the snare, but agree on the lack of bass.

It is a fun song, I was thinking of FreezePop who made music with only the Yamaha QY70 (is that band still around)?

Thanks for sharing!

MusE DAW running on Debian 11 Testing/XFCE4.

It's funny the stuff that you don't notice until after you put the song out there. I never thought anything of it when I was making it, but now I can't ignore the lack of bass haha. But I'm still pretty happy with the general tune and the vocals.

I'd never heard of FreezePop before, but I just did a quick YouTube search and I'm really digging what I'm hearing!
