Water Colour Sky (downtempo, abstract electro)

Post by jeanette_c »

Hey hey, this is a very meditative, relaxed electro piece:
https://youtu.be/3Pz44DnX5fQ
(Last I know, it was still being checked for copyright infringement, so if you have problems, please let me know).
This is greatly inspired by Rod Morris' track "All My Love".
It features Csound with all kinds of synthesis for drums and shimmering effects, LinuxSampler for loading in all those effect, plus an electric piano and the woodwinds, some Yoshimi, setBfree and a little more analogue hardware.
The snare is mixed from several snare sounds from the Drumgizmo kits (all five of the big ones).
Have a calm, relaxing Sunday, Jeanette

Nice, relaxing song. I like the birds at the beginning. I like music that incorporates non-musical sounds, but it's not so easy to do so in a "natural" way, so I'm always happy to hear music that manages to do that.

Thank you Pieter! It was - I believe - a first for me to encorporate a field recording into a "proper song". In this instance it was absurdly easy, seeing that the intro is very sparse and, of course, I had my inspiration to work from. :)

Thought I'd come to the wrong place
This is so unlike anything I've heard from you before. Absolutely captivating!

The flute-like stuff happening at the same time as the electric piano? I don't know what you did but it sounded great!

It IS a relaxing piece, while still being harmonically intresting. The organ with the (another) flute-like sound is very inspiring!

There is a sound that plays the same chords. It's a simple detuned sinewave patch, IIRC and a VERY simple FM piano in Yoshimi, using just two operators either on the same pitch or an octave apart, the modulation controlled by a slow envelope. A lot of the details are happening in layers. :)
There is a sampled piccolo flute from the Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra, as well as the cor englais and a synthesizerd sound sharing the melodies.
Right at the end there's another audible high sound, playing a few tones moving up. That is a simple Yoshimi patch. Something like a filtered square or circle wave.
...
Thanks for the very sweet and positive feedback!

Inspiring as usual! Your use of natural sounds reminded me of ambient composer Dan Gibson. This would have fit well into one of those 90s chillout compilations, the European pals certainly know what I am talking about :D

You should do more of these downtempo songs. Please!

Thanks a lot @Basslint ! Not sure if I can manage another one, certainly not in the near future. :)

I REALLY like this piece. It has a great feel and texture. The sound choice is excellent. The slow melody played by the flute keeps reminding me of a phrase near the beginning of Copeland's Appalachian Spring. Thanks for sharing this. You deserve all of the positive feedback you're getting in this thread.

Apparently I missed this when it was first shared :o
Very beautiful atmospheric track! I particularly like how the rhythmic sections sound.
