Frankly, who cares? (rock/disco, all FOSS, Ardour 6)

Post by Senbee »

So I ended up to make this very short song. Synths are all made with Surge or with JjazzLab soundfonts. Electric guitars and vocals are real.
I used Ardour 6.5 on Linux.
For the lyrics video I used Blender.

It's a great, catchy song. Well sung and well effected. It has a good, clean and driving flow.
Especially in the drums it might shine even better with better samples/sounds. Besides that it's a clean, straight mix. Even the drums work with the genre. With everything else, I'd simply prefer better quality.
Splendid piece!

Totally agree.
The point is: the drum pattern has been initially generated by an open source drum machine / arranger (JJazzLab) and then heavily edited: that drum machine sounds ok with its own soundfonts, so to use better samples I'd have had to remix all the single drum sounds. I did not, because I'm lazy :-) I preferred trying to improve drum sounds with compressors and equalizers, I thought it would be faster. For my next song, I'll try to work more about drum samples, promise! :-)

This is an interesting piece. The dark and rather cynical lyrics juxtapose ironically with the bouncy and relatively upbeat music. It's a great trick in pop music, put to good use by The Smiths, especially, but also others. Your track reminds me of Stephen Merritt's music, particlarly this brilliant song: https://youtu.be/S1KTuYXc2Gw

The brits do this a lot! The Smiths and The Cure being the champions of that  and most notably, Pink Floyd and Dire Straits.

@Senbee your songwriting skills and musicianship are astounding, as usual! :D

I don't do it on purpose but actually, being Pink Floyd and Dire Straits (and brits in general) my favourite kind of music since a was a child, I realized it's a natural tendency I have :-)
