Arctic 80 (competition entry for DJs for Climate Action)

Hey hey,
here, first of all, is the song:
https://youtu.be/ypm4h8gD0s4
The DJs for climate action, https://djs4ca.com have a cooperation with Green Peace, taking part of the Green Peace sound archive and creating a sample pack with some pure field recordings, loops and oneshots. There's a competition to use some of these samples in a song and send it in until the end of February.
This is my entry, taking almost the entire drumkit from that sample pack, including the riser. Since a topic to be discussed on that day was the genre slaphouse, I tried to encorporate that into my song.
I didn't use sidechain compression, since that would be a little awkward - or at least slow - in my environment, so I used (complex) LFOs on the volume of some tracks to emulate the effect.
Whatever and however: I hope you enjoy it and maybe some of you feel inspired to also join the "competition".
Best wishes, Jeanette

I like this track. You did a nice job with all of the sounds, and good patches on the synths. I like the transitions in in the drum pattern.

Thanks a lot. Unforunately, it won't be part of the competition after all. I misread the terms and conditions or they were ambiguously written. Anyway, it remains a song. :)
Thanks again!

DJs for Climate Action
What does this mean?

DJ's not longer traveling around the world polluting the air with Kerosene exhaust gases plus some ugly sort of Music?

Great idea! I'm going to support this! :D

Edit:

Can't say this in English, as I don't know the terms so, I say it in German instead:

DJ's sind widerliche Schmarotzer, die (fast ausschließlich) von der Arbeit echter Musiker leben und nur selten Steuern zahlen, da Sie sehr oft privat gebucht werden und alles unter der Hand geregelt wird!

Being blind, naturally, I can't see the image, but frankly the whole (non)sense of this comment eludes me. :( We appear to go down the road of cliches here, though my song being a kind of cliche itself, I shouldn't complain too loudly. Still, personally, I'd welcome a little more subtlety, please. :)

Sorry!

The image shows David Guetta performing at the opening of Olympia if I recall correctly.
His right arm goes straight up into the air around 140 degrees.
A very funny GUY placed a text into the background of the photo, on top of David Guetta, saying: I PRESSED PLAY!

Btw.: how do you read the forum, if you are blind?

Thanks for the image description. :) It makes more sense now.

There would be many ways. In general one uses a screenreader, a software to read the screen content - and on a GUI - interpret the structure, like windows, element groups and so on. Personally, I use a braille display, a small USB device that shows fourty characters (half a line on the terminal). The more popular version is a text-to-speech synthesizer. Braille displays are expensive, not every country funds them. Besides, speech appears to be much better supported on all the graphical desktops. If you're good you can read documents with a speech synthesizer much faster than a sighted person can read with their eyes. :)

The track is good as usual! You really nailed that sound.

Since someone started the conversation, how much does a good braille display cost? Do you think an "open hardware" one could be made?

As with everything, prices have dropped. :) AFAIK many 40 character braille displays are around $3000-4000, give or take. There are cheaper ones, and I think they work now. :)

Not really. It seems to be a complicated task. And consider this: most states that don't support or fund braille displays are rather poor, which includes the blind people. So even a cheaper display might not reach that market. Add to that that speech output gets better...

I'm a bit late this, but I love the track! Artic 80 is a really great name too, fits the track really well.
