Power Girl

Post by jeanette_c »

Hey hey, Power Girl is a rock ballad or glam rock (can't be sure which) track:
https://youtu.be/-wSfh7600tQ
It's another instrumental, that comes with a lot of energy and a dense arrangement. It includes my Clavinet in the role of muted guitar and rhythm guitar, procesed through Fons Adriaensen's autowah and Guitarix.
Further Linux instruments: Yoshimi for the 8th choir stabs, Fluidsynth for the bass and LinuxSampler for tron choir, drums, clock ticks, muted piano effect, SSO strings and setBfree in the part of... Well, Hammond organ. :) Add loads of plugins and some hardware synths and the bed is made for powerful vocals.
Best wishes and happy new and energetic year, Jeanette

I've got to visit here more and listen to a lot of these original songs because I just really love hearing what a creative mind can do. This was an awesome piece of music.

This is great fun. I kept expecting the vocalists from either Abba or Ace of Base to pop in at any moment.

Thanks both of you, FunkMuscle and Michael. It was a lot of fun to do.
Michael, funnily enough, this time I had either Jennifer Rush or the vocalist from the Cutting Crew in my mind. :) We'll see. I have a promise of vocals, if I can finally deliver lyriics and a basic melody line. :) All in good time... :)

Sounds good; a very well done song. It's definitely crying out for the vocals! And I found myself wanting to hear electric guitars on the track.

And all you got was Clav. Though I am more and moire comfortable trying it out in the place of electric guitars. I'm so very glad I have it, since I can't play guitar to save my life and my favourite guitarist is sometimes difficult to motivate. :)
Thanks for the nice feedback!

That was a cool song! Lots of 80s, some keyboard work that reminded me of Rick Wakemans 80s stuff, and ABBA.

Two build ups in the beginning! Loads more in the song! Awesome!

I like it very much!

Thanks @oscillator , what a glowing recommendation! <3 It was all very 80s inspired - with the 70s ellusion in the prechorus, the bit that probably reminded you of ABBA. It all began as mixing the best from Cutting Crew's "I just died in your arms tonight", with Jennifer Rushes "I come undone" and perhaps Bon Jovi's "Runaway". Though I think some Michael Jackson also ended up in the mix as well. :)

This is, on first inspection, a long way from your classical symphony I just listened to, but after a bit it is plausible they come from the same mind :D
Very diverse and cool composition. 80s pop child with prog parents!
I saw you mentioned Cutting Crew, the intro of course immediately got me thinking of I just died in your arms tonight but this song is much more than that. Very very good!

Yes, I cannot betray my influences. The Bach will out! :)

Hm... My father does like some prog, though more 60s beat and 70s rock. I got a dose of 80s. I did enjoy the sounds, but many of the songs I didn't really like (fully). So this piece is part of my effort to distill music elements that I enjoy from certain types of songs and try to write pieces that I enjoy from start to finish. :)

Kinda like this Bach-rock! It also reminded me of Holding out for a hero by Bonnie Tyler. Jeanette, I think you should collaborate with a neoclassical guitar shredder next!

Interesting. There is something in that. :)

Ha! I'm looking forward to collaborate with my favourite vocalist again, on Power Girl as well as on one or two other songs. :)
