Dark days

Post by jeanette_c »

Hey hey,
Dark days is a further instrumental, though it might work better without vocals:
https://youtu.be/v2AJXTm57zM
This is a dark, electronic track, with many 80s influences, but possibly some other heritage beside.
Instrument and production details (as far as I can remember :) ):
Yoshimi (rhythm chords and airy lead, perhaps sine sequence)
Hexter (DX7 bass and FM clavinet)
Roland JV-1080 (drums)
Waldorf Micorwave XT (pads, guitar and vowely bell)
DSI/Sequential Prophet-12 (Bass, pads, arpeggio pluck)
Sequencing: Midish
Audio recording and production: Nama with loads of LADSPA plugins and a few LV2 plugins
As always I am looking forward to your feedback if any. Otherwise: simply enjoy!
Best wishes, Jeanette

hi, that sounds good, really old school.
I hear a little bit of distortion in the mix, like a limiter or a compressor a little too far, but it contributes to the style. I think it would be a good thing if you added a capture of your screen video to some songs.
i'm a little curious about midish.

The console is not veryinteresting, nor do I know how to capture the TTY. I used to work with povray to create images, but I'm not in the mood now, it takes so long, especially if you're as good as blind. :)
Midish is an interesting program. All users that I know use the "example" shell program, though it was designed as a powerful backend for other applications with its scripting features and everything.

Nice one and outstanding mix! How do you sequence your tracks? When you are using midish, do you program the midi tracks?

Thanks @lilith ! I play the notes. Rarely do I actually program events. I may slow down the tempo when things get tough. But I am a player and - suppose - always will be. It also helps in imbuing a song with some expression, if the instruments support it. Or when working with orchestral sounds only quantise to a certain degree of accuracy, keeping some varied timing in the performance.

I like this thing, melodies are well done and it sounds as if it can make for a great soundtrack to something. Great work!

Sorry for listening so late, I actually had this bookmarked from my own dark days, in which I didn't find the time for listening to my fellow Linuxmusicians :)

I think this is a great track, with a great arrangement, some neat sounds and above all, what an atmosphere!
