Lament
This is a short piece that started out with me just recording a guitar chord progression to keep track of it. After that I improvised a melody on a low G whistle, and then had my daughter play some viola and added that, too. Drums and bass are software instruments added in the DAW (I use Bitwig).
Lament (original; acoustic guitar; low whistle, viola, software drums/bass)

Re: Lament
Thanks, cabsi, I appreciate the feedback (especially since I was trying to make it sound very full, even with the limited number of instruments).
I used effects that came with Bitwig (my DAW). Some delay, some reverb, and parametric EQ. Oh, and some compression on the guitar.

Re: Lament
Hi @Philotomy , this is a beautiful piece. The way you produced it lends it a very late 60s air, very nice playing too. I find the viola an especially nice touch: so praise to your daughter!

Re: Lament
Thank you, Jeanette. I'll pass on the compliment to my daughter; I know she'll appreciate that.jeanette_c wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 12:59 pm Hi @Philotomy , this is a beautiful piece. Interesting that you get a late 60s air from it. What qualities give you that impression?

Re: Lament
I think I got the 60s vibe from the combination of guitar and whistle, emphasized by the playing style and the whole production. I think I'm reminded of some hippie-influenced music. The drums too help, with the very dead snare. I love that. Though the good low end shifts the tone towards the 70s. It's such a good, solid sound.

Re: Lament
Cool, thanks for elaborating. I enjoy a lot of music from the late 60s and 70s, so I'm not surprised if that influences me.jeanette_c wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 6:47 pm I think I got the 60s vibe from the combination of guitar and whistle, emphasized by the playing style and the whole production. Re: Lament
Truly gorgeous! Violas are among my favourite instruments in the orchestra, and your daughter played the part beautifully. I also had the vibe of a 70s band interlude: great work!

Re: Lament
I like this. Very original and good choice of instruments.
