In 1987 (I think) my friend Art gave me some lyrics. I put music to this one that was about cartoons. At the time I would record a part on a cassette deck and then play along with that while recording it to another deck. Repeat until it was done. I had pretty much forgotten it. Recently my kids heard it and thought it was cool so I recorded a new version. I used Ardour, Guitarix, and Hydrogen with the samples from Glen McArthur's 4 piece Black Pearl. Used a-compressor, X-42 eq, a little bit of a-delay on the lead guitar, Calf Saturator in the master and Dragonfly Room reverb in the reverb bus.

Funny song! Kind of sounded a bit like Mark Knopfler.
Nice guitar playing!

Re: Ultra-Violent Cartoons
For some reason SoundCloud wouldn't load this on my browser, but I finally got it to play on my phone. It is a fun track, and your guitar solo is impressive!
I remember those days of recording with the built-in microphone on a portable tape deck, with open-air "multitrack." Those recordings are so terrible! But that was all I had to work with back in the day. I have hours of those recordings on old cassette tapes in a closet somewhere. Back in the early 2000's I digitized the best of them, but they're not worth sharing. If the songs were any good then I'll eventually get around to recording them again.
Nice job salvaging an old creation!
