Deeper And Deeper

Post by lilith »

Just finished this one. I started with it somewhere in August or September. Recently I changed a lot and that's the final version:

Good balance of sounds, and I really like your sound palette. I particularly like your choice of sounds in the percussion track. The track also flows well, with well-timed increases and decreases in tension. My favorite part is from 2:00 to 3:30, especially towards the end of that passage where the synth voices weave in and out of dissonant chords.

Another very impressive work, lilith! Well done!

Hi,

I like it! The 80's John Carpenter movie sounds with the dissonant pads are really cool. I think the mix is really good too, every distinct part is very clearly discerned. Love how the arpeggiated synth parts are so much part of the percussion as well.

A fun one to listen to!

I'm not a huge fan of electronic music, but I really liked this! It gave me some good dark ambient vibe, and it reminded me a bit of "God is coming" by Antimatter in terms of mood as well

I did several mixes and was going a bit in circles. Only when A/B two mixes you can tell which one is better. The track was almost finished and then I tried to improve the mono compatibility. However this made the mixed sound muffled and less open. But I only realized this when I directly compared it to a previous version. There are for sure still a lot of things to improve, but I don't know where to start or where the main shortcomings are.

From Antimatter I only know the LEAVING EDEN album which is quite ok, but a bit too smooth for my taste. I have to give the first one a listen. Yes, there are indeed some elements similar. They even used that Sonar sound.

ahhh.. I also removed all the plugins from my master channel and loaded the track to LANDR.
In the first 16 seconds your here my version and then the LANDR version for 16s and so on. The only difference I hear is that the LANDR master has a little bit less high frequencies. In the low end it's almost the same.

Hi.

Nice track, even though it's not my kind of music. I liked especially the drums when they started. Definitely cool and I'm too much a drummer to create such. Like the other song Jam300 I downloaded and listened to it in a loop for some time. If I can stand such, it's definitely good - on my side.

Note: I download only since I can't listen online. No pulse audio installed in my OS, don't want it. Browser is Firefox, needs pulse audio. Only if I can't download and therefor need to listen online I'm using Pale Moon browser.

However, I don't want to throw a dead cat into the party, though I noticed some samples that sounds like snippets from old movies.
Since I like to use samples as well I'm always interested in samples that can be used freely without to violate any copyrights.

What's that samples and where to get - of course only, if they aren't copyrighted?

Thanks :).

The samples I used for this track are snippets from:

youtube.com/watch?v=rvaC_aQQ7YA&feature=emb_title

Don't ask me if there's a copyright.

Samples from the public domain can be always used. You can find a lot at https://archive.org/.
Also the NASA recordings can be used as they are in the public domain.

Same holds true for politician speeches.

I do not know about Öttinger, but he did get the word 'dossier" right though. Surely the only non-German word he got right.

Sicher haben sie schon dieses video gesehen. Pretty funny:

Now about the piece: I find that there's not much holding it up as a standalone piece eg. it is in need of being part of a soundtrack, of a story with precise elements. The mix is good. To make it as a piece on its own it'd need more direction, just a little bit perhaps, to make it less static.

Hmm... I don't find it too static. Ok, there are not many chord changes, etc. but there are several parts which are quite different.
