"Die Ferne" (some things should stay where they are)
Hi all, a song with mixed vocals in German. A story about a fisherman who aimed too ... deep.
Made with Qtractor, Yoshimi, drumkv1, Linuxsampler, CALF plugins, Guitarix and other free stuff.

Excellent work!! The "chuffy" Drums and the grinding bass tone had me at hello! Terrific production and mixing and I'm this excited without understanding a word of the story...lol
Great work, you continue to move upward with every release..

It happened what always happens: I noticed a mixing bug and had to replace the song.
Don't mind if you don't understand the lyrics. I guess even native German speakers won't get the story

Very good work. A heavy duty hard driving song. Thanks also for the Lyrics. I put them through the DeepL Translator to get a clearer idea of the story.
The Yoshimi guy {apparently now an 'elderly'}

Well done. I'm impressed with the overall quality of the sound. This shows what can be done with free software.
What did you use for mastering?

Thanks. I mix and master in one step.merlyn wrote:Well done. I'm impressed with the overall quality of the sound. This shows what can be done with free software.
What did you use for mastering?
1.) Each track goes in one of a few subgroup busses. No track goes directly to the master bus. So I have the same number of "hops" and the same latency for each track. Effects are in buses as well.
2.) All busses, both the subgroup busses and the effect buses connect to a pre-master-bus.
3.) In the pre-master bus I have CALF EQ, CALF Multiband Compressor and CALF Saturator
4.) The pre-master bus connects to 2 buses: pre-master-dry (without any effects) and pre-master-wet.
5.) In pre-master-wet there is stereo-enhancing setup with CALF EQ, Calf Vintage Delay and CALF stereo tools.
6.) pre-master-dry and pre-master-wet connect to the master bus.
7.) In the master bus I have CALF Multiband Enhancer and CALF Multiband Limiter

That's controversial. It definitely works. It's a sophisticated setup you've come up with. Thanks for sharing.bluebell wrote:I mix and master in one step.

"Der Angler tut auch diese Nacht, was alle and'ren glücklich macht."
Ein bißchen Jägermeister mit ?
Good song, good 'pop' production, good everything. When are you going on tour ?
Cheers/Tschüß
(the other song that plays automatically after, "Grünes Blut" is also good)

Thanks. I left a lot of the story to the listener, so if you prefer having a glass of Jägermeister – then finejonetsu wrote:"Der Angler tut auch diese Nacht, was alle and'ren glücklich macht."

When I was younger I played live. But those days it was already very hard for me to memorize chords and melodies. Had to practice twice a week with the band. Don't know why. Probably a weakness in memorizing graphical patterns on the keyboard.
Now it would be too stressful doing live gigs.

Musically not exactly my cup of tea, but you definitely have a unique style. The voice reminds me a bit on RUMMELSNUFF

Production wise it's quite good, but is it a bit muddy in the lower mid to bass range or is it my ears?
Guitar playing is great!
What are your influences?

There is a lot going on on the lower mid to bass. It sounds ok on my monitors and headphones but it might not be the best for speakers and rooms with resonances in that part of the spectrum.
If I feel like mixing/mastering the song again I'll try to tidy up a bit.

Same here, so better don't trust me. I have a strong room mode at 123Hz.There is a lot going on on the lower mid to bass. It sounds ok on my monitors and headphones but it might not be the best for speakers and rooms with resonances in that part of the spectrum.

I found a not-so-expensive source for bass traps (Pyra Bass series):lilith wrote:Same here, so better don't trust me. I read that this stuff is much too light weight too be effective. This will work and has a good pricebluebell wrote:I found a not-so-expensive source for bass traps (Pyra Bass series):lilith wrote:Same here, so better don't trust me. I can't complain.I have a mix of the cheaper Pyra Bass and the more expensive Auralex Acoustics Lenrd Bass Traps Charcoal 4 in my corners.lilith wrote:I read that this stuff is much too light weight too be effective.
