Greetings !

What the hell, I've posted it everywhere else, might as well put it here too.

Fair Enough aka The AFAICT Song

Comments welcome, but please bear in mind that I haven't done anything like this for quite a while, I'm a bit rusty.

Best regards,

Rusty? Pfffffft!

Great performance! Your thumb is a locomotive, great ambient recording and a killer vocal in your low range. More please!!

Hmmm, thought I'd commented here, still. Thoroughly enjoyed this... as I said elsewhere :)

That's some right fine fingerpicking there.

Greetings !

Vast gratitude to all of you who listened to and commented on my little song. It happens to have particular meaning for me at the moment: We've lost three good friends to severe illness in the last two months, so the matter of staying and going has become an "in my face" thing.

The guitar part is under-recorded, the result of the mics sitting too far from the amp. For the technically-minded among ye, the guitar is an old inexpensive Ibanez electroacoustic run through a Fender Mustang I amplifier. Mics are a Yamaha MZ106s and a Shure SM58. (I'm a lucky singer, the Shure fits my voice nicely, I think.) The song was recorded to Ardour6 (beta built from source), with a little compression and reverb added with native Ardour plugins. Btw, the compressor has a good preset for vocal recordings, which was used in this recording. And that's it. I did a number of takes, settled on the last one as the keeper, and there ya have it.

As I mentioned to Gmaq, I have a bunch of songs that remain unrecorded. But now Old Mortality is farting in my general direction, it's time for me to put a move on a few things. As the rustic folk around here say, "God willing and the creek don't rise", I'll get around to recording those songs as soon as possible.

Thanks again, gang, may you rock forever in the halls of Valhalla. :)

Best regards,

dp

I absolutely loved this. Solid pickin' and the way the vocals lift a bit in the last verse brought the ears back around. I heard a little JJ Cale in your voice as well. Looking forward to the clearing of backlog!

Thanks for lending your ears, ufug. :)

I might have heard Cale's recordings once or twice. I definitely heard him perform at McCabe's many moons ago.

Perhaps the most influential singers for me have been Muddy Waters, Willis Alan Ramsey, Magic Sam, Sonny Boy Williamson, the Everly Brothers, and The Beatles.
Looking forward to the clearing of backlog!
You and me both, brother, you and me both. And I have the time, I'm just lazy about getting it done. But it will happen, I promise.

Best regards,
