Lair of the Dragon King

Post by folderol »

I originally composed this in 2006 using Rosegarden for sequencing a mixture of
Sound Canvas, ZynAddSubFX & Qsynth with Jamin providing some EQ and compression then Audacity for recording.

This latest mix uses Rosegarden and Audacity as before, but the only thing in
the middle is Yoshimi :)

Better control of levels and slight tweaks of sound meant that Jamin was also redundant.

You can download ogg-vorbis

or variable bit rate mp3

Enjoy :)

Pleased with the music! Like as transposition into the magical world of fairy legends! :)

Great, I like it! The melody which is repeating over and over sounds familiar to me. I hear some 70s Krautrock influences. Does it makes sense? How did you make the distorted guitar-like sounds?

Thanks. That little pattern was actually the start of the whole thing and it ended up as an all-night session. I made the mistake of listening to it again after less than 3 hours sleep and very nearly deleted it, thinking it was rubbish. A couple of days later I was highly relieved that I didn't.

I've actually lost track of what my influences are these days! They range from Opera to DnB to Reggae
The 'guitar' lead is one of my voice patches in Yoshimi called 'Overdrive'. I believe this is also available in the default set for ZynAddSubFX. because of the way it uses randomisation it's never quite the same each time

Hi,

Enjoyed it, thanks for posting! Always impressed by the palette of sounds in Yoshimi. Good phrasing of notes in your melodies even when you are doing variations on the main theme. :)
