With the waves

Post by wjl »

Hi all,

here's a remix from Pewi (Peter) of my latest jam on Wikiloops. The original template was from STJray (Canada), the lyrics and voice are from Shi (England), my bass was played directly into Ardour, and Peter (CH) added a really nice saxophone:

I love this track; Shi and Ray got me floating and drifting for weeks before I even touched my bass.

Enjoy, and thanks for listening. Cheers,
Wolfgang

Lovely smooth performance all round. Very clear vocals too.
The Yoshimi guy {apparently now an 'elderly'}

Thanks folderol - and I mixed the vocals a bit louder and crispier than the singer did herself ;-)

Cheers,
Wolfgang

Again not exactly my type of music, but that's a professional composition and production imo. I really like that the sound is not over-compressed, so there's a lot of headroom. Works perfectly with a warm summer night with a cocktail at hand. I hear some small crackles at 1:41 and e.g. at 3:15? Beside of that it's perfect! I like the saxophone. Reminds me a lot of Silje Nergaard and is quality wise absolutely comparable "und auf Augenhöhe" imo:

Very well done!!

At the beginning of part I when she sings "with the waves" at the s of "waves" it sounds like there was something corrected. Some compression or something? There's a small gap between wave and s.

Thanks Lilith - and about those crackles: I had the same impression, yes. But these were in the template already, so there isn't much I could do since I didn't want to mess around too much with their original recordings.

I also agree on over-compression, which I also don't like too much.

Thanks again - I'll forward that compliment to Peter, the saxophone (and flute) player from Switzerland :)

Good question - I know next to nothing about Shi unfortunately, except that she's using an older version of Adobe Audition (so it's on Windows I guess), and depending on which effects she's using, sometimes her voice needs a little presence boost. But that is just my taste, and in one instance (in another song) I overdid that as well - have to go back and correct it.

Please remember that most of us aren't professionals, just a bunch of guys & girls who like homerecording, and music. It's an aweful lot of fun, so glad I discovered that platform with a little help from here ;-)

Thanks again, and cheers,
Wolfgang
