Some guitar recordings

Post by flappix »

Hi,
I want to show you some of my guitar recordings.
I used the following software:
- Ardour for recording
- Sometimes Hydrogen for drums
- Sometimes rakarrack for realtime effects

Would be nice if you could leave some feedback. I always have an open ear for suggestions to improve.

Hallo.

"Treasure Hunting" is very good. It could stand on its own or have maybe some subtle synth/atmospheric parts added to it for coloration. Really very good. I like it much. As is, and as a base for something more developed.

"Lost in Mind" is also quite good. Although perhaps just a tad less focused. "Amy and Emil" has a very good use of sounds.

Those are the ones I listened to so far. Some rhythms sound a bit like mediterannean

On the recording side they all sound pretty good.

Hope you find people to make music with in Berlin !

Cheers.

I just let these play in the background - very nice work and an interesting variety.

I see you're in Berlin, so might we see you at LAC2018?

Hey, thanks for your kind words.

@folderol: Looks interesting, when I'm not at holidays I'll give it a try.

@42low: Nothing special, just plugging the guitar into the line-in jack of my onboard sound card. Sometimes I use a Digitech RP55 for effects and as a preamp. The only thing you should care about is getting the amplitude not to high in order to keep the signal undistorted.

Thanks for sharing these! Love the variety of textures you are getting and all the gypsy scales (melodic minor? I don't know my modes/scales ). These tunes have very song-like structures--do you plan to add some lyrics?

There is a lot of hiss in the recordings. I am guessing it is from using the onboard sound card or the Digitech. If you want to get rid of this, consider using noise-repellent. It works great.

@ufug: Thanks for your hint, I will definitely try this plugin next time I record something. I guess this noise come from the acoustic simulation of the RP55.
Unfortunately, I'm the worst singer you can imagine, but if I will find someone who are interested in putting some lyrics on top it would be great.

@42low: What do you mean with not plugged? Do you use a microphone to record your amp?

Hi, thanks for your explanation.
Thing is, I don't have either a guitar amp or microphone. I'm using a normal hifi system to amplify my guitar which does not really change the sound, I guess. At the moment there is not enough money and space there to buy an amp and mic.

Serious music, in which the old clowns died or were silenced, I liked :)
