Back to my roots

Post by folderol »

It's very easy to get so sucked into development work that you forget what it's all for. Well after some pretty heavy sessions - especially December last year - I decided to give myself a break and play through some of my old compositions. To my horror I discovered I could no longer play them, when previously I'd just rattle them off one after another.

So, towards the end of January I decided I would practice at least one of them every day, and today I actually got through three of them with hardly any mistakes :)

Feeling pleased with myself I then just started playing whatever came to mind, and suddenly was in the 'zone'. What a relief! Here's what I came up with: Genesis

Beautiful!
Does it have a story behind it?

Thanks Brian,
Not really a story, except that of me going back to my roots and actually playing pieces as complete entities, which could be thought of as my musical recording genesis.

Nice, makes me think of some of the soundtracks by Vangelis.

Thanks, Will, this one's just beautiful.

Do you do everything with Yoshimi these days ?

Are the sounds your own ?

Best,

dp

Yes, pretty much entirely Yoshimi these days. Just occasionally I'll use others mostly for percussion.
Also, almost entirely my own instrument patches. A few of the older ones are developments from other people's (in which case I acknowledge that in the info window). For this particular tune it's just one patch - 'Ghost Ensemble' in my 'Companion' bank.
