Hello, LinuxMusicants! :)

I bring to your attention the instrumental composition, which concluded recently.

You can listen the track https://soundcloud.com/psyocean/palais-des-mirages
And see videoclip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S6d69-PbM8

What I use in process of creation? Only linux jewelry tools :D

Create and midimake - sequenser Rosegarden
Recording audio, mixing, and effect processing - DAW Ardour 4
Scoring midi stream - linuxsampler+Qsampler+sfz samples (from No Budget Orchestra and Sonatina Orchestra)
Different plugins - Calf, Invada, TAP, etc.
Final peak-compressing, cut, and export to mp3, wave - Audacity
Videomake (Linux-TV! ) - OpenShot Video Editor and Shotcut.

Hey,
Interesting piece, I'm working on a piece with dissonant sounds too. Interesting to hear how you move to consonant harmony :-).
One thing that sets me off a bit, is the violin sound. Don't get me wrong, I struggle with the same issue. There simply is not a single free (open source or otherwise) virtual violin that sounds good enough to my ears. The same counts for choir actually, when it takes the lead.

grtz,
Bart

Hi, LinuxGuys!

Thanks for response!

Yes, sometimes I use dissonant structures, that go away from banal sounds, sometimes it creates an ambient mysterious atmosphere of uncertainty... I like constructing chords where there are large and small seconds, tritons, something else besides the basic triads... Accords like AMadd9... Which have been involved for example in the instrumental "The Call of Ktulu" by Metallica... Moderate disharmony extends the perception, it may be a space for experimentation and innovation... Nice when keep measure. I'm not a fan of cacophony, or absolutely any radical musical perversion:) It is necessary to observe some kind of balance between harmony and disharmony. Too sweet to a little deceiving is bad and not good when all the roars and crashing. Need balance between the two extremes :) Of course sometimes I make mistakes. So I have to work and evolve:)

But sometimes I like simple light melody, flying from fairy land, that plays elves on flutes :D

Virtual instruments... It is a toothache of the musician  Only one way out - kidnap violinist of the Orchestra and force him at gunpoint to play live all parties for our compositions. The high art requires sacrifice!
But seriously... In those tracks where involved guitars, I record them alive, of course it's difficult, but it also gives more pleasure... The sounds of electronic synthesizers often sound good even on virtual synthesizers and samples. In classical instruments articulation is very diverse, they are really hard to simulate the software cheap way, everything becomes like the Robot Orchestra  I hope science eventually will correct this deficiency, hehehe :D

Creative mood and inspiration for all! :)

Dissonant structures can create a feeling of mystery and/or tension, useful in movie scores. They are also good for waking up the ears and drawing their attention, as the above comments show :) It's good to hear creativity in music like this.
