A couple of tunes for Autism awareness month
Couple of songs I wrote for an autistic person who's close to me:
"Echoes from hyperspace"
https://alandmoore.bandcamp.com/track/e ... hyperspace
"He's an alien"
https://alandmoore.bandcamp.com/track/hes-an-alien
Tracked and mixed in Qtractor, some on a Debian system and later on Antergos. Other notable softwares:
- Calf monosynth
- Hydrogen (for the second one)
- Audacity (for mastering)
- Lots of great ladspa/LV2/VST plugins from the FOSS community.
Enjoy!

Hi,
Super impressed with the arrangements and mixes but most of all with your obvious deep and caring insight into the subject, very touching and engaging works! Great job and thanks for sharing!

Very nice tunes! I can tell you are a keyboard player, very nice key arrangements on the Echoes song. I think we all might be a little autistic to some degree. Find yourself vegging out on computers and music for long periods of time....

It's hard isn't it? You can do everything in your power to teach them, to prepare them; but you can't make other people accept them. That's what motivated me to write these songs; I wanted people to understand.rghvdberg wrote:You made the father of an autistic boy cry.
He's an alien is spot on.
You're singing about my boy.
Keep fighting the good fight.

Re: A couple of tunes for Autism awareness month
I can't ever decide if I want to be a guitar player or a keyboard player. I'm past 40 now, you'd think I'd make a decision . But I think the piano drives my writing more. I actually took a different approach with these tunes and did a piano/vocal/lead score in Musescore rather than just doing a chordsheet. It helped me to work out some new voicings and try some new transitions, not just slap down the same chord patterns I'd been playing for decades. Of course I didn't strictly follow the score, but some of the trickier transitions went smoother with a plan.kbongosmusic wrote:Very nice tunes! Thanks for listening!

Touched my soul. Very elaborated arrangement.

Very thoughtful compositions.
Actually, after I'd listened through both of them I realised I hadn't noticed anything about the arrangements - and I mean that in a good way. After a second listen I wasn't disappointed.

I did a write up on my recording experience with these pieces, if anyone's interested:

Beautifully done. There's a real 'connect' with the subject.

My youngest daughter is autistic. There is a lot of cleaning up and trying to keep her from eating all the neighbour's flowers.
I was wondering if you are a fan of XTC?

I never really got into XTC, but I listened to a lot of similar bands as a teenager (the Cure, the Fixx, the Smiths, and other bands with "the" in the name). My best friend in High School DJ'd the school radio station's alternative-rock show, so we spent a lot of time listening to that kind of stuff.CraigPid wrote: I was wondering if you are a fan of XTC?
