Free Time!

Post by folderol »

Yesterday I actually had the opportunity to switch on my DAW and just sit down and play. It isn't often I get the chance to do that. Here is the result. This was just one take - warts and all (as they say).

https://soundcloud.com/soft-sounds/improv2

The setup was two staggered keyboards firing MIDI to Rosegarden for recording, then passed on to two channels in Yoshimi. The sound patches are Ghost Ensemble and Angel Piano. I might clean it up a bit later. Then again I might not :)

P.S.
That photo is half way along an abandoned track that has both ends blocked off (they think)

Hi!

Great piece, I enjoyed the dimension and 'space' in the chosen sounds. I don't hear any 'warts' or anything to be 'cleaned up' in fact I'd like to hear more of these kind of pieces improvised in this way, the unexpected twists, turns and subtle unquantized timing shifts are very engaging to listen to.. Great stuff!

Wow! I am impressed. In my opinion, it does need improvement. Very nice.

Very calming. Yoshimi is great for this type of music, lots of texture and depth. -Take breaks and play more often! ;)

Thanks Brian. You're probably right, but I keep finding things that 'need' to be done :(
