Super Newbie Reaper Q: Can't get multiple inputs

Post by jjjjjames »

Ok. I feel like I'm missing something super basic here. Everything I google / search for and follow just seems to work, yet I can't figured out what I'm doing wrong.

The problem: In Reaper, I can have two tracks, but I can't select each track to record a different input channel (I'd expect there to be two)

My Gear / Setup:
XPS 13
Ubuntu 20.04.2
Tascam 2x2HR
Qjackctl (0.5.0)
Reaper 6.41

What I can get working:
1) I can record with reaper, and play back, track 1. Input 1.
2) I can use Qjackctl to connect both inputs two both outputs (in the patch bay) and I can then monitor both inputs via the Tascam, via the computer (ie: not direct monitoring)

But I CAN NOT seem to get reaper to see both inputs from the TasCam. Even tho, in the patch bay they appear to be wired up appropriately, the option to record input 2, on a reaper track is not present.

So this leads me to believe it's something in my reaper setup, but beyond that I'm stumped.

Here are some screenshots which might help debug.

Wired straight to outputs, this setup works fine.

Wired via Reaper, (both inputs), but only input 1 is selectable in reaper.

Reaper settings for audio input.

Appreciate any help I can get here.

Have you tried changing the reaper inputs to 4 channels? It might be treating them as stereo inputs?

In your screenshots, you are missing the box that you select the input to each track on in your track view. Try enlarging the track view to the right, so you can see more dialogue and the tracks look like

As you can see, there is "In/fx" box where you select the input for each track.

OMFG!! lol

That was it. UI was cutting the input selection box.

I 2x scaled the UI, due to 4k screen.

I assumed "In" was the input selection.

THANK YOU!!

You can also right-click on the record button for a menu of everything.
