Keith McMillen BopPad and drumkv1 (Ubuntu Studio 20.4.2): no sound
First of all my USB-MIDI-Keyboard is working fine with qjackctl and qsynth. On the screenshots you see the configuration. In drumkv1 the green button (left on the bottom of the window) is lightning when I hit the bass drum on my BopPad. I don't think that the problem is at the sound server. Do you have any idea, why there is no sound? A sample for bass drum is loaded.

All looks ok I think. Just for troubleshooting, have you tried doing the same thing with another sampler or synth? You could try LSP's sampler just something like zynaddsubfx or Tal Noizemaker. Maybe you could post the drumkv1 screenshot, perhaps the velocity or volume is all the way down or something.
Edit: I guess if qsynth works in this way for you then you don't need to try another synth/sampler.

The sample looks very small and short, almost like it is a transient layer or something, have you tried something else?
Are you able to trigger it and get a sound using the keyboard on the interface? I wonder if the note you are triggering on the controller is different from the one in drumkv1 is set to. I've found it's quite common that C2 on a controller is actually received as C3 or C1 by the software.

I downloaded this: https://reverb.com/de/software/samples- ... collection
and it's not easy to find a nice bass drum.

When I click the Bass Drum on the drumkv1's keyboard, I don't hear any sound.

I just tried it and it's the same for me, sorry I thought it would do that but haven't used this sampler before. However, I connected my midi keyboard up to it and I was able to get the drum to make a sound. My version of drumkv1 highlights which key the sample is assigned to but I can't see that on yours?
Is the green light coming on next to the sample in the list on the top left?

1) My version of drumkv1 also highlights which key the sample is assigned to
2) When I hit the boppad both the green light at the bottom is flashing and the green light besides the element (36 - Bass Drum).

I'm not sure then, the only thing I can suggest is to try some other samples.
