I like to keep things simple where possible and Qjackctl seems to work quite straightforwardly. I only record acoustic instruments so don't need anything complex for audio work.
I have marked Ardour as held as per @sunrat. I usually just stick with deb stable, I rarely need software more up-to-date than it contains. The only reason I have trialled Ubuntu and am currently running testing is that I have just switched to plasma desktop, and the one in buster is pretty old. The one in testing is not as up-to-date as the one in, say, Kubuntu, so I might move on to bookworm once that becomes testing, assuming it will get plasma 5.21 (or higher). But then again, I'll probably have got so used to using 5.20 by then that I might just stick with bullseye. And Ardour 6.5!
Ardour in KXStudio repos?
