Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 gen 2 linux massive XRUNS

Post by nasedase »

using jack + my 18i8 I'm unable to go below 128 buffer + 48000 sample without thousands of xruns, and even at 128 it's usable but I'm still getting xruns. With my 6i6 gen 1 I was able to go all the way to 32 buffer + 48k sample without any xrun issues. Is there something I'm doing wrong or that I need to change in qjackctl or cadence?

Maybe you need a patch. See viewtopic.php?f=6&t=21163

I updated to the newest kernel and added "/etc/modprobe.d/scarlett.conf" to /etc/modprobe.d/scarlett.conf and got the ALSAMIXER to work. Still getting XRUNS at this point.

I'm on kernel 5.8.3 using Manjaro.

BUMP! I am having the same issue, 18i8 can't go below 128 buffer size but 6i6 could succeed all the way down to 32.

Except… strangely enough, in my case the 18i8 that's failing to go below 128 is gen 3, and the 6i6 that works with 64 and 32 buffer sizes is gen 2.

With the 18i8 gen 3, I have a possibly-related problem: jack_bufsize fails to change the buffer. It just says "Unknown error -1" But "switch master" in Cadence works.

I happen to be using the test kernel from https://github.com/geoffreybennett/scar ... /v5.12.9s1
and I did the 18i8 specific 3rd gen entry for modprobe. Incidentally, when I was testing the 6i6, I had done the "sledgehammer" option:

Code: Select all

options snd_usb_audio device_setup=1,1,1,1
Is there a chance that's related and worth trying to switch that?

I can live with 128 for now, but it would be ideal to fix this bug. Whose attention do I need to somehow get who would know about this sort of thing?
