Soundcloud

Post by TAERSH »

Hi.

Since I'm new to this forum I think to post this here. Sorry, if this was already asked again and again.

I'm not only new to the forum, but also to all that stuff that connects between music and internet. It was a big learning curve to get my YouTube channel setup etc.

In some signatures of forum members I noticed links to 'soundcloud' of which I never heard before.
So, there's some questions someone of these members may probably answer to?

Is it useful?
Does it have any benefit for real life in music when signing in?
Is it easy to use and to setup?
Is it for music only or music combined with videos (like YouTube)?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply.

'Only for music' sounds good.
This is the way, music should be published I think.
Also I found it hard to create a video for each song I uploaded to YouTube.
Does take lots of time.
Without the need of a video I might have uploaded probably 50 songs or even more.

So, maybe I'll try it.

If I may try and find myself uncomfortable with it, is it possible to remove everything uploaded plus also to remove the account itself?

Don't know about the account, although you can delete any upload. You can also replace uploads with newer versions.

You don't need to create a video for each song. Upload a cover and it creates a video out of it automatically (shows the cover as an image for the whole song). Lots of people do this and if you have a cover/artwork it is a good way to showcase it.

If you want people to listen to your music then it's crazy not to make use of YouTube unless you have some kind of issue with the platform itself.

That seems to be a good feature.

Hmm, I recall watching some videos only showing a cover or picture but found it a bit "low level" to create a video that way.
Since I never met an option to upload audio only plus a picture I thought they created the video locally and uploaded.

Even though I sometimes have issues with the differences YouTube makes on political issues (at least here in Germany), I do not plan to remove my YouTube channel, of course. Just curios and looking for alternatives.

Music only definitely is such an alternative, I think.

Btw. I already tried to register, but the 'terms of use' was way too much to read for me - even though it's in German language.
For what I've read until now it seems to be as much as restrictive on the political side as YouTube is. Sometimes I'm doing lyrics about the weird political situation in Germany. So, I fear removal of my songs, since SoundCloud is located in Berlin, the biggest "sh....le" city in Germany.

I need to think about it...

If you want to be sure that no-one deletes your content because an algorithm thinks it has detected some copyright issues or other illegal contents then you have to run your own webserver.

Be sure to have a modern, inviting layout, for example like my site http://suedwestlicht.saar.de/
(just kidding)

Sure no-one might find your contents then.

So have some additional accounts on Youtube or Soundcloud or other popular sites.

Hehe, I don't fear any algorhythm. I fear people owning a "Furz im Hirn". :D

War gerade auf Ihrer Seite. Sehr schön, nur mit Text gemacht. Sehr kreativ.

Right now watched your page. Pretty nice, well done using text only. Real creative.
Was listening to 'Die Ferne' and 'Schnee fällt'. Nice songs, though 'Schnee fällt' is not 4/4. It's 4/4 & 7/8. :)
I would count it and playing it as 15/8. In Qtractor or any sequencer I would arrange this as 15/8 also.

Ok, I'm now registered to SoundCloud and uploaded a few songs to play a little with that account.

None of these songs are uploaded to YouTube yet.
They are all composed in December 2019 when I composed 18 Songs in 14 days in a row.
Sometimes during the Christmas days I worked up to 42 hours in a row composing songs/recording ideas.

For anyone being interested in my kind of music:

A slow instrumental song using fat synthesizer sounds:

A Pop-Rock Song (Our Souls) almost finished:
https://soundcloud.com/user-633698367/20191223qr0138
An instrumental song in 11/16 using vocals and artificial language as an instrument:

If any listen to this, please let me know, what you think about it...

youtube is active on the political side and of course, on the side of the power in place. Or 'regime', if you wish.

Starting from that point, it is then easy to build any kind of 'witch hunting' with appropriate modern terms to demonize any person or group that expresses a perpendicular point of view and does it squarely, without sparing the 'regime' in place or any of its members.

People are then busy reacting instead of weighing issues in a most objective way. Which is an activity that demands an effort, but the effort is put into reacting instead.

That's quite a nice song. I'll listen to the others later, now's the time to make some noise.

Yep, hence "Takt .............. 15/8" in http://suedwestlicht.saar.de/Lied/?Lied ... nee_faellt

But that's not the whole truth. There are some 7/4 (14/8) inside the song, see screencast

Time to make some noise? So, you got inspired?
If so, then 'time to make some noise' is one of the best compliments ever!

I stopped counting after recognizing it and count it out. Wanted to listen to the song.

Interesting: I also used Rosegarden in the earlier days of my GNU/Linux journey. I don't know why, but later version did crash sequentially over and over on my side. Nowadays I'm really happy with Qtractor.

In my early days I found Rosegarden to be very intuitive and had problems with Qtractor's workflow. After some years I found Qtractor very intuitive.
