folderol wrote: Fri Aug 19, 2022 6:34 pm Kickstarter is just like any other speculative investment. You don't commit funds you can't afford to lose. There is no comparison with a large established organisation that has regular supplies and significant stocks. Also such a small concern as Mod is right at the bottom of the pecking order when it comes to component suppliers, so it's no surprise they got hit particularly hard by all the disruption
.

Except it's not really like any other speculative investment. Try getting investment for a business from a bank by promising them a gift bag or a pre-order "maybe" and then not showing them any breakdown of how you are going to spend that money. A pre-order is not an investment and phrasing these kickstarter tier awards is such is sketchy and it causes bad feeling (as evidenced in the thread) when they don't appear because it acts effectively like an exemption for consumer law.

I've spoken to the Mod guys on several occasions at LACs, and had a little correspondence with them. To me, they come over as unconventional but genuine. I'm not in the market for any of their kit, but if I were, I would have committed funds like others have. I would have been upset to have potentially made a loss (it aint over till the fat lady sings), but wouldn't have belly-ached about it.

The Mod team have already said they will try to honour commitments, but they can't do it if they have no money, no materials, no workplace.

Finally, it doesn't pay to make unfounded assumptions. I have in fact read through the thread mentioned, and am fairly clear on on what some people seem to think. Doesn't alter any facts.
What unfounded assumptions I have made, you aren't even disagreeing. They can't deliver unless they have more money, that's their position. They even state themselves they started crowd funding after/to compensate for COVID disruption to their supply chain. It's not even vaguely ethical to use kickstarter to prop up an already failing business.

OK. I'm out of here. You seem to have no flexibility at all.

Did you drive off a cliff while texting this response? Because the sentence seems to come to an abrupt stop.

I'm a supporter from day one (still have the MOD quadra laying around here)
I started once to make LV2 plugs just because Gian ask me if I could do that for the MOD.
Don't know if I would have done that otherwise?
I feel really sad that this happen to the MOD team,
but this makes me laugh out loud:

If he drove off a cliff, he wouldn't have ended the sentence with a dot.
As most of the messages, pretentious and devaluating.
@raboof: I don't post a lot, but I am feeling really uncomfortableto seeing how the clown's messages are allowed and others are deleted.

He could have been 1/3 of the way through writing an ellipsis... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellipsis

Maybe if you gave as much business to his male escort service as I do, you'd get favorable treatment too.

But, a number of my posts were deleted -- more than yours. And I'm more funny and cuter than you. Move on with your life.

TBH I don't think that's accurate - I mostly only delete posts by 'others' when they are a reply on a post that I also deleted, and provide no further content than that reply. If you (or anyone else) is interested, I'm happy to share a snapshot of the thread before the removals - please ask over PM.

Or you pay his bribe, which by the way, is quite reasonable. It cost me less than $5 to have raboof replace babarosa's avatar with an image of an ancient form of greeting involving the touching of buttocks.

For raboof's bribery rates, just PM him.

This is a new company.
The legal difference is that they changed from GmbH (which is the German "real company") to "UG (haftungsbeschränkt)", which is a company model for startups etc.

Already the first blunder, albeit meaningless for users:
The company name must include "UG (haftungsbeschränkt)" or the full version „Unternehmergesellschaft (haftungsbeschränkt)“. It is explicitly not allowed to leave out or rephrase the part in parenthesis.

I imagine that will soon be corrected. Give them a bit of slack. They've not exactly been on a walk through the park - more like dragged through a bramble thicket!

AN UPDATE

One of the original backers has put up a youtube vid of the unboxing of his new and shiny (extremely well packaged) DWARF.

Some those very publicly accusing the MOD team of abandoning the supporters should consider equally publicly apologising to them.
... I doubt the team will hold their breath waiting, and neither will I.
