Anything Native Instruments failes to install

Post by wvi »

Hi,
I just downloaded recently NI Massive, Massive X and Native Access and tried to install using wine but I am always getting
Installation cannot proceed, your operating system is not supported
Any ideas how to debug or where can I look to get more information

Code: Select all

$ wine --version
wine-6.21 (Staging)

For Native Access there is some instructions here viewtopic.php?f=62&t=23505

However, for me they don't fix the problem fully.

Your downloads should be completed, despite any error messages, and found in

.wine/drive_c/Users/you/Downloads. (this may be a link to /home/you/Downloads.)

Copy the .iso file to a new folder, like /mnt/iso and extract it.
Assuming you downloaded Phasis, use these commands:

sudo mount -t udf /home/you/.wine/drive_c/Users/you/Downloads/Phasis.iso -o unhide /mnt/iso

cd /mnt/iso

ls

Now you will see the Phasis installer with a .exe extension, and it should install OK

If this fails, try the AVLinux distro, which has an older, but well working wine installation.
Wine compatibility with vst installs and usage, varies with the wide wide range of user environments.

A small clarity, Massive and MassiveX are wholly unrelated products. Despite both sounding great,
the name is all they share. The MassiveX launch was one of the low points in Native Instruments long history.
Many sensible requests and fixes are as yet unrealized. Keep posting your results going forward, as time allows.
Cheers

This is Massive X running in the previous older version of AVLinux, in linux Reaper daw V6.42
With a wonderful preset called Comb Experiment, each note sounds like a chord played on
some hybrid instrument, part harp, part harpsichord, part dulcimer
But great fun to play 8)

Thanks everyone for suggestions, I had to solve some more important issues so I did not have time to make it work. When I came back to this problem decided that I am sticking with linux solutions and don't bother with wine at all. I don't have to use NI stuff I actually found good alternatives for me so now focusing on new plugins to learn. I've replaced Massive with Zyn and Vital, it is not perfect but I am able to get out of it what I want most of the time so throwing NI out of the window.
