WARNING: WINE Staging Updates (5.7) - Avoid!
All, just a heads-up if you're running WINE-staging for compatibility: the latest updates for Staging (5.7) have completely broken compatibility with all VSTs in Debian Stable; LMMS can no longer load them. I haven't had a chance yet to suss out what caused this, but I would avoid these updates for now. If you have a working setup, lock your WINE version in Synaptic for the time being.
I'm going to need you to go ahead, and come in on Sunday, too.

Re: WARNING: WINE Staging Updates (5.7) - Avoid!
I appreciate the heads-up about 5.7
I think the odd-numbered releases
are more experimental in nature.
I think you should try the free linux Reaper demo with LinVst and wine-staging.
If that does not work, then there is indeed a serious breakage. I wouldn't
rely on lmms to determine such things across the board. It's an ambitious project,
but vst support was not at the core of it's developement.
I've had good luck with wine-staging releases,
only the transition from 4.2 and 4.3 to 5.x caused an annoyance.
(some new Native Instruments products gui's failed, and still don' work,
So I'm going to make a new Ubuntu Studio setup just for 4.2)
Before updating wine, it's best to rename your .wine folder,
so a flawed update can be quickly uninstalled, and recovered from by reinstalling
the previous version. Change your Synaptic package manager settings if needed to keep
downloaded files in it's cache, and on to backup media when size matters.
( /var/cache/apt/archives )
Cheers

I never used the apt chache to revert my installed version of a package before but was able to get some assistance from someone over on the Debian forums, and reverted back to Staging 5.6. LMMS is working properly again, so my advice is to stay with it for now. I reported the bug over at winehq.org so hopefully it gets resolved in 5.8. I'm in the middle of a project and was feeling the pressure to get going again and so didn't experiment too much, but did go ahead and download Reaper to give it a try.
I'm going to need you to go ahead, and come in on Sunday, too.

Can you post the link to the Bugzilla entry here? I didn't find it in a quick search.@Mr. Lumbergh said:

It's been rolled into another as a duplicate, apparently it already started popping up with games crashing:
