Update broke IK multimedia plugins

Post by Robin Cherry »

I'm using Manjaro with the stock Kernel 5.11, yabridge, wine-staging 6.4, and an up to date Reaper. I have force ignored Wine to keep 6.4 as it works well. Everything was working great until a recent system update. Opening Modobass or Amplitube 5 hard crashes reaper immediately when they were working flawlessly before. Is anyone else experiencing the same or similar? Any tips?

Can you post/upload the output of `env YABRIDGE_DEBUG_LEVEL=1 reaper 2>&1 | tee /tmp/reaper.log`? You'll find the output as a file over at /tmp/reaper.log. A shot in the dark: are you on Arch or Manjaro (or any other Arch based distro) and did you install yabridge using either the yabridge or yabridge-git AUR packages? If that's the case boost-libs or lib32-boost-libs might have updated at some point and you need to rebuild the yabridge package (the last update for Boost was ages ago, so this is very unlikely to be the case here).

I got "env: ‘reaper’: No such file or directory" in the teminal. I tried REAPER, cockos-reaper, and reaper5 with the same results. I've installed reaper in username/opt/REAPER if that makes a difference.

If there's no symlink to REAPER in your search path, then just replace the `reaper` with `/opt/REAPER/reaper` or wherever it's installed.

i should mention I did get this working. I looked at the list of programs included in the last update and saw that Vulkan was one of them. Updating d9vk to the most recent version in my wine prefix seemed to do the trick. I'm curious if you see anything amiss though. Here's an abridged version of the log you were asking about as the full version was way too big. This was when I opened Modobass. Sorry I couldn't figure out how to embed it.

yabridge/wine-wise everything is a-ok there. It does look like you're missing the aribb24 package REAPER needs, so you'll probably have to install that.

For me, 'IK Product Manager.exe' does not even start, it fails with last line:

Code: Select all

009c:err:service:service_control_dispatcher pipe read failed error 998
So I can't even get latest version of Amplitube installed.

wine-6.6 (Staging, also tried with wine-6.4

I don't have any IK plugins myself, but they should install just fine I think. Did you try installing them in a new, clean Wine prefix? Or maybe @Robin Cherry knows the trick.

Mine worked after I used the trick hide windows version trick that people use for Arturia plugins. Amplitube 4 was always good but version 5 didn't work until I did that. That being said it always installed fine.

Thanks for the help btw @robbert-vdh I'm really loving yabridge. It's really straightforward, works great with vst3, runs everything well, and has you as a super responsive and helpful developer. I'll be using it for years to come!

From IK multimedia pages, downloads for Amplitube was pointing to Product Manager, but following link 'other versions' there was possibility to download Amplitube directly, and that worked.

Ah yes, that issue. That's how I installed them as well. Sorry I was confused. Glad you got it working.

As for Product Manager not being able to download/install plugins, there is a workaround (which I tested only for Amplitube 5 MAX v2 and ToneX MAX). You need a Windows installation for it though.

On a Windows installation/separate PC, install the Product Manager and disable auto-authorization in the download settings. Download the products. It will try to install right after downloading, but cancel at that point. You will find a .zip in the configured download folder, with an installation .exe and some other files inside. This installer has worked for me on Wine for both AmpliTube and ToneX.

They seem to run fine too, apart from not being able to connect to ToneNET for user-submitted presets.

It is a lot easier to just go to their web site, log in, go to "Your Products" page, and select "Past Releases" from the product you want to download. (It does contain the most recent release as well.) No need to boot in Windows.

Thanks for that! I did read that it was an option, but always assumed that there were only old releases there.
