fluidsynth soundfonts - selecting instrument

Post by ag123 »

hi, i've a little doubt about selecting instruments from soundfont patches
as i'm using GS midi soundfont patches with fluidsynth synth

to select an instrument from the banks, i manually added a program change event at the start in the event list

is this the normal means to select an instrument from the soundfont patches?
is there a better way to do so?

Hi ag123,

Have a look at the screenshot here:
https://github.com/muse-sequencer/muse/ ... ng-in-muse

This shows the midi editor opened but what I wanted to show was the channel strip on the left. Changing instrument can be done everywhere the midi channel strip is visible.
For Fluidsynth the <Patch> dropdown will be populated with all instruments that the soundfont contains.

This is the place to select sound for synths that select sound with program change (some soft synths and all external synths). Unfortunately depending on what the soft synth implements, the procedure may be different for other soft synths, some may for instance require you to make the selection in their own interface.

@spamatica, thanks for replying !

it seemed to do with the my setup, i could only select "Program" when i select display > add controller view
i'd guess this is the only way i'd be able to select the instruments.
'patches' isn't visible in my menus when i select fluidsynth

edit: oops found it !
it is there at the left of the piano bar near the top
