routing a midi track to multiple instruments?

Post by garvalf »

Hello,

is there a way to route a midi track to several instruments? For example Track 1 to two different virtual synth + jack-midi-1?
I can't find a way to do that. Each time I select a new port or instrument, it will unselect the previous one.

I don't think this is possible, at least I haven't found a way.

One workaround is to create a new MIDI track, and place ghost copies (clones) of the parts from the first MIDI track on the new track, and then assign softsynth #2 as the out port of this new track.

MusE DAW running on Debian 11 Testing/XFCE4.

thank you. I've seen it's possible to duplicate a track and use clones, which is probable the quickest way of doing this. The only problem is if you remove a part in the main track, it won't change the cloned track, so it's a little tedious this way.

I've found an other solution, it's not perfect but I'll go with it at the moment: instead of using the virtual instruments in Muse, you only load Carla Rack as a LV2 instrument, then you can define several other instruments within the Carla-Rack. And to drive an external synth, you can add into Carla the JackAss plugin, which will create a new redirection.

In general, no, we don't have multiple track output routes, yet.
That would be required so that a midi track could be routed to more than one MusE port/device.
Because MusE ports are where each selected instrument lives.

There is a discussion about what is possible here, but it's not quite what you need:

I did it like the following

Create three midi tracks
Create two synth instruments.

Put the first midi track to a jack midi output and then connect that midi output to a jack midi input of muse with a jack connection program (I did it with Catia). Then you can set the latter two to the midi input and then to the respective synths (turn input monitors on).

That way the first midi track controls both synths via the second and third.

Thank you both, I'll try that.
I especially like Largos' solution.
