Hi,
I wanted to buy an inexpensive keyboard midi controller.
There is a thread in this same forum by Pablo ( http://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=210 ) where it is recommended the M-Audio Keyrig 49 MIDI controller (http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOKEYRIG49). It is a simple keyboard connected to the PC through USB and it is reported to work perfectly under linux.
In the same site, there is also a more sophisticated version. The M-Audio Oxygen 49 MIDI controller (http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOOXYGEN49). This one, as I understand, is actually similar to the Keyrig, but with added sliders and 'knobs' which can be configured to control the mixer and synthesizer settings.
My question is.. does anyone know if it is possible to configure these sliders and 'knobs' in linux ? and if so.. it is worth paying 30 or 40 extra euros for this feature? , I mean.. do you find it useful ? (in my opinion it must be, but I am not an expert)
Thanks much!
Gerard.

Re: Keyboard MIDI Controller
Old question, sorry to be bumping, but here's what I know:
http://usb-midi-fw.sourceforge.net/ has the firmware loader to get the Oxygen 49 (and other midiman-based controllers) working on Linux. I just haven't been able to figure out how to get the more advanced controls working. Basically, it loads enough to give you a MIDI keyboard that'll play in Rosegarden.

Additionally, if you're running a Debian-based system, you can find the package in the repo by searching for "midisport-firmware". I searched in the repository for Ubuntu Jaunty and it was in there already. I proceeded to install it and once installed, my MIDISport USB 2x2 interface worked without issue.john.seekins wrote:Old question, sorry to be bumping, but here's what I know:

Some devices, such as the MidiSport 2x2 Anniversary Edition and the Keystation 49e, don't require this package though.Claudio wrote:once installed, my MIDISport USB 2x2 interface worked without issue.
Re: Keyboard MIDI Controller
You are correct, and I think they mention that on the page for the MidiSport firmware. However, the earlier versions like mine do require it. Regardless, it works fantastic with this firmware.raboof wrote:Some devices, such as the MidiSport 2x2 Anniversary Edition and the Keystation 49e, don't require this package though.Claudio wrote:once installed, my MIDISport USB 2x2 interface worked without issue.
