Will this midi-keyboard work in 10.04
Hi all,
I recently bought a midi to usb converter, but can't get it working; I started to look at the m-audio midisport (which I used to own and after 2 house moves, now just cannot find anywhere), but the prices are comparable to this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/M-Audio-E-Keys-37 ... ontrollers
...so I have searched round a bit, and a few people mention the same model with extra keys working on Linux, so I was wondering if anyone knows if this would work?

No reason on Earth why it wouldn't so far as I can see. I have an old Casio with midi in/out. Works just fine.
Hope this helps?

Do you use a midi-to-usb converter? Which one?
This is straight to USB which is why I was wondering if it would work - of course, the spec says Windows XP through 7 drivers and MacOSX, but no mention of Linux as usual.
I was wondering if anyone had any dealings with these direct midi controllers?

It's a class-compliant device so should work out of the box in Linux.

Lovely - thank you.
Is there any way to find out if this is class-complient:

I have one of these at home, but I couldn't get it working.

Re: Will this midi-keyboard work in 10.04
Could you plug it in, open a terminal, enter aplay -l && lsusb and post the result here?
Re: Will this midi-keyboard work in 10.04
Will do - am at work at the moment, but the moment I get home, I'll plug the bugger in!
Re: Will this midi-keyboard work in 10.04
Hi, am home now, so:
It seems that I can see the device in the lsusb but not in aplay - is this bad?
Code: Select all
dave@dave-studio32:~$ aplay -l && lsusb

Added it to https://usb-ids.gowdy.usdchurch24 wrote:Code: Select all

Not per se: I don't think it should show up in aplay.dchurch24 wrote:It seems that I can see the device in the lsusb but not in aplay - is this bad?
Does it show up in /proc/asound/cards ? http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/git-c ... /3/1/25070 suggests something was improved to usbmidi relatively recently - hard to see in what version of the kernel(modules) this ended up though.
Re: Will this midi-keyboard work in 10.04
Hi, thanks for that, much appreciated.
Sadly, it doesn't show up in asound/cards, the only one listed is my m-audio card.

It's a midi input device, so why should it show up as a sound card? Does it show up on the alsa midi pane in qjackctl?

Re: Will this midi-keyboard work in 10.04
oh... not my cup of tea.....
thanx for the answer.
But, if it does work on other distros, should be no issue for Ubuntu, shouldn't it???
