Hi All,
Up until recently, I've been using my Korg D8 (hard disk recorder) and an old keyboard (with not the best sounds for my recording works). I decided to switch over everything to the computer (Using AVLinux).
I need advice on choosing a sound card, and you may find my wish list is a bit 'different'.
1. Prefer a PCI card
I'm using a relatively old PC with PCI slots.
2. Need sound font capability
The PC is 2.67GHz Pentium and I'm not sure whether it could handle fluidsynth (I could be wrong here, but I imagine that a soft synth would cause jitter, etc).
3. Need an optical input (TOSLINK)
I plan to use the D8 (which has an Optical out) as the 'sound card'. It provides high quality sampling ability. In other words I'm hoping to get away with a relatively low spec - hence cheaper sound card.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a list of audio hardware form zZounds.com, filtered to ones known to work with Linux.
Where ever you get it, it would be a good idea to check the ALSA list below and search the forums here and forums of the distro you are using.
