The one port may be on a shared bus (with other ports & devices) and the better port is dedicated?

I don't think that's the reason because I use the Scarletts on an USB hub. Some say you shouldn't but it works fine on three different computers.

It can be hit and miss. My Behringer UMC goes nuts on a hub and is unusable although it works great in an on-board USB port, whilst my older Edirol UA-25 didn't mind a hub at all.

Thank you for all the info, and sorry if my comments on Behringer caused some blisters... Munch munch... This is the sound of me eating my prejudices towards that brand. I can do without the Amazonian Rainforest Virgins at the moment... :P

qeiynn? How'd you make out? I'm getting ready to buy one and wanted to see what happened in your world. I'm replacing a little Behringer analog mixer.
