Playing all sounds through Komplete Audio 6

Post by kazik »

Hello,
I got some problem connecting NI Komplete Audio 6 to Ubuntu 14.04. I want it to play all audio instead of on-board sound card. As in some other topics and tutorials, I set in qjackctl Setup Input and Output Device as hw:K6 [Komplete Audio 6 (hw:1)], started JACK. Now I'm not sure what to do next. In Connections Audio tab there is only System on list.
What should I connect? Maybe there is another way of running KA 6 on Linux?

greetings,
k

System on the left side of the qjackctl Audio tab will be your K6 line-in,
System on the right side, will be the K6 audio output, sent to speakers, or headphones.
Connect a synthesizer/ePiano hardware output, or hardware guitar processor
line-output, or a CD/mp3 player output to the K6 line-in, and then connect
System on the left to
System on the right.

If you wanted effects for the synth/guitar/toons, for example, start rakarrack.
Connect System on the left, to rakarrack on the right and
connect rakarrack on the left, to System on the right.

In the qjackctl ALSA tab, alsa supported midi hardware devices you have connected,
or midi software you have started, will appear.
Install a2jmidid, amsynth, and yoshimi.

The qjackctl MIDI tab is for jackd midi software. With qjackctl running,
run a command

a2jmidid -j default

now start amsynth and yoshimi from terminals.

In the ALSA tab, connect amsynth on the right,
to your midi keyboard on the left. (Install vkeybd and/or vmpk,
if you don't have a hardware midi keyboard)

In the qjackctl MIDI tab, both yoshimi and amsynth are on the right,
connect them to a2j on the left, and then, back in the qjackctl Audio tab,
connect amsynth and yoshimi on the left,
to System on the right.

Connected midi keyboards should now play both amsynth and yoshimi
default sounds. (or in the ALSA tab,
connect vkeybd on the left, to
amsynth on the right, to use mouse, or qwerty keyboard to trigger synth notes.

Hope this helps!

You can use vlc, audacious, smplayer and aqualung players with qjackctl running,
if you choose jackd in their audio prefs, to play tunes and movies.
Audacious, xine, and xmms have jackd plugins in various repositories.
vlc, smplayer and aqualung don't need them.

A utility alsaconf may help set the K6 as the alsa default soundcard.
Cheers
