[SOLVED] Lexicon Omega doesn't work

Post by Luc »

Hi. I just bought a brand new Lexicon Omega audio interface. Either it's broken or I am doing something wrong.

I plugged it on to the AC power and lights lit up. It's my first time with this unit or this model at all, but I've read the manual and find it strange that the top row (Mic 1/2) and second row (Line 1/2) have both red and green lights lit up at the same time. I press the USB Assign button and nothing happens. The blue "USB" LED also lights up, and there is no button that will make it turn off.

Maybe it's all because I don't have a computer connected to the USB port?

So I connect the unit to the computer through the USB port. Nothing happens. Nothing turns up at 'lsusb' and nothing turns up on Catia. It doesn't exist as far as Linux is concerned.

I've tested two different USB cables, just to make sure the cable was OK.

What can I do?

Linux lucdebian 3.2.0-4-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 3.2.63-2+deb7u1 i686 GNU/Linux

Another thing, when I connect my headphones to the headphone output, I hear a quite loud hum. Turning off (zero gain) all the channels helps, but the hum is definitely still there. I plugged a tablet to the LINE input and I could monitor it, but the hum doesn't go away. :?

From the manual i see, when the blue led is active, there's being communicated with the interface & computer.
About the interface isn't visible via lsusb. Maybe it helps if you update the usb device list with the command update-usbids ?

The hum, could be a grounding problem or maybe caused by a not good power supply.
If the Omega is connected to a laptop it could help to pull the power adaptor from the power point.

But if it's a real grounding problem, i don't now what to do with it. I'm don't have the knowlegde to solve that.

I don't know the omega, and the manual doesn't do much for me since it don't have the device the play with.

The blue "USB" LED will blink when the Omega is disconnected from the USB and stay on when it's connected.

The "USB Assign" buttons are used to assign the corresponding pair of inputs to a pair of USB channels.
That is, the Omega has 3 input pairs: "Mic 1-2", "Line 1-2", "Line 3-4", but can send to the USB only 4 channels, so for each input pair you need to set if they go to the channels 1-2 (red LED) or to the channels 3-4 (green LED) (or nowhere).
It's definitely strange that they are lit at the same time on your device. At each pressure of the button, they should cycle throw red-green-nothing, but never red+green at the same time.
Please, avoid some common spelling errors:

Making a long story short, my problem is solved for the most part. The dealer took the old unit and gave me a new one, which is working. At least it seems to be in pretty good working order. And this one hums less than the other. There is still a little bit, but a lot less, it's almost tolerable. It should be tolerable after I get used to it.

Now, how do I use it? I connect it to the USB port and get this:

Image

I only see the MIDI capture and playback ports. I looked around the corners of the canvas on Catia, and no, there's nothing there or behind any of the other groups. This is it.

I hooked up something to Line 1 and I can monitor it on the Omega's headphone output, but how do I get that output into the computer?

OK, I solved that riddle myself. I just had to reconfigure Cadence to use the Omega as the device/interface of choice.

I think I can get by now. Thanks.

I have a new problem with my Omega interface.

I had 32-bit Debian Wheezy on a netbook that I knew wasn't going to last long. It died, so I bought a new computer and installed 64-bit Debian testing (Jessie) on it. When I configure JACK on Cadence to use the internal sound card, everything works, but the Omega interface doesn't show up in Catia except for the MIDI ports. I can't route audio. Sure, I have to change JACK on Cadence so it uses the Omega. But when I do that, JACK fails to start. The log tells me this:

Code: Select all

Re: Lexicon Omega doesn't work

My problem is solved again, though somewhat mysteriously: I just connected the interface to another USB port.

The mystery is in the fact that none of my chassis rear USB port works with the Lexicon Omega. It only works on one of the front panel ports, and according to the motherboard manual all the rear USB ports are 2.0/1.1, but it is not very clear about the front ones. On a given page, it says that all ports are 2.0/1.1 and on another page it seems to imply that the front ports are 2.0 only, if that makes any sense.

http://www.manualowl.com/m/Asus/H61M-A-BR/Manual/406335

Note: my mobo is the H61M-A/BR, which has no USB 3.0 ports.

This is slightly inconvenient because I would like to have that kind of thing connected on the back of the computer, leaving the front panel for pen drives and such. But oh well, at least it works.
