Why do you think it's so great? There are lot's of audio interfaces one can buy nowadays and I've a hard time distinguishing between them.

It's good to know it runs under Linux and that it has some nice features, but there are similar interfaces for less money.

The Tascam costs Euro 350.00
A Behringer 1820 costs Euro 224.00

Compared to the Tascam the Behringer 1820 loses the Wordclock BNCs (workaround would be to connect the S/PDIFs with another 1820) and 8 ADAT ins but it gains 8 ADAT outs and gains 4 analog ins.
The Tascam doesn't have those ADAT outs and only 4 analog ins.

It would be interesting to see somebody do a real life test comparison between them in Linux and whether claims like the ones below hold up.

"Tascam is rightly proud of their internally developed USB driver that allows the buffer size to be reduced all the way down to 4 samples for pretty much imperceptible latency with DAW plugins"
Some Focal / 20.04 audio packages and resources https://midistudio.groups.io/g/linuxaudio

...

but still dunno how to setup INs with Jack on Ubuntu-studio.

208i has 2x ADAT = 4 mono INs + 8 + 8 = 20. (my clock source is ADAT A at 44khz)
for OUTs she got 8 OUTs, like for 7.1 or 1-2 + 3-4 + 7-8.

on Windows i can use Tascam software to add DSP fx's on my jamming synths...

but on Linux i think whatever u got an interface with/without DSP not matter as even 2000$ UAD or Behringer cheapest USB can bring VST for stereo..

edit: with i7-2600K i run 16 samples on win ( vvith omnisphere), but my pc is 2010 "potato". :)

PS²: my ADAT is a Focusrite Octopre mkII Dynamic (used), and withe DYN/Comp knob it does matter ! for Tascam 1-4 i cant say if it's less or better.. on win i do the LoopBack by plugin 2 jacks from OUTs 3-4 to INs 1-2 coz Tascam series have no loopback like my Saffire Pro 24... but what i hear/what i rec/what i re-listen is same.. just have input gain on 1-4.

PS: i have not much experiences with gears, but i do computer music too since old GOODS AMIGA 500 & 1200'S with floppies & all, maybe one or two .mod .. :)))) i not have a PRO engineer hear nor experiences with gears, im 44.

i just think..

the 208i goes to IN RCA 1 of DDJ-1000, & DDJ goes to mini-hifi Sony 90s (as monitors..), the DDJ-1000 is USB plugged too, but i can listen on monitors^(on win DDJ has its soundcard unlike a controller MIDI USB(maybe it's standalone...? dunno..)), but dunno if this DDJ has software for Mixxx on Linux... (on jack there are only USB SERIES 208i selectable while both plugged..)
