Biotek and F'.Em $24 in jrrshop

Post by tavasti »

Big discounts on Tracktion linux-native synths in jrrshop.com

https://www.jrrshop.com/tracktion-f-em F'.Em for $24 (normal $179)
https://www.jrrshop.com/tracktion-biotek Biotek for $24 (normal $199)

I've been on tracktion mailing lists for years, and they don't have this big discounts ever, so this is your opportunity if you want those.

I suppose they are normal plugins for any DAW, or they might even have standalone (and if not having, use carla). I just downloaded demo versions, I'll check them during weekend.

Why you think so?
It's a VST2.4/VST3 plugin. Works in any VST capable host.

I wanted to buy one of these, but the site asked for a telephone number, so I aborted the purchase process. I'm not a FOSS nut, but I'm definitely a data privacy nut. There's no reason for these companies to ask for your telephone number for something as simple as purchasing a software license. Thankfully, I'm not seeing too many companies doing that anymore.

Because the website says only things about Traction and I couldn't find anything about VST. Let alone Windows VST or Linux VST. Hence the question. Nice to know they're VST's.

Tracktion is not name of DAW, it is company. Their DAW is Waveform (bad name, what about naming it as DAW? :-D )

Had finally time to test, they are normal VST+VST3.

Biotek, did some preset testing, and looked ui a bit. Did not feel something very special to me. Possibility to use sample as OSC and also use them granular way is feature that is something which isn't present in all 'normal' synths. But I do have Renoise Redux (which I haven't used too much, should learn it), and possibly I could all that stuff with it?

F.'em, sounds and feels nice, great features. Downside, I have got 2x total computer freeze with it, nothing works, need to turn off power. So maybe would be much more usable as windows vst with wine :-D

But not having real need, question is if I would want to support linux-native commercial synth with small amount of money or not...

I've got crashes with both when plugin's render is set to OpenGL. With software render, these plugins works fine. Also OpenGL gives almost no benefits on Linux here.

That was most likely reason, did not get any freeze after disabling opengl.

Ok, Biotek is synth which has plenty of great features. If I would not have already more great synths than I can use, I would purchase it.

Well,
I jumped on the Biotek Sale.
It's not working. I mean : if I reinstall eveything (plugin and content, it works once or twice. Then if I want to use it, I got a direct crash of my daw (Reaper) with nothing in the konsole but "core dump".
Unusable because very dangerous, it's like playing russian roulette.

distro : Fedora Jam
daw : Reaper
computer : Dell XPS 13 Plus

You did not try demo-version before?

You might try disabling OpenGL from settings, that ended crashes for me in F.'em

The things is: I now use Fedora, which doesn't use deb packages. Therefore, I can't blâme the développer.
I converted the deb info a tar gz file, then opened the bin exécutable. It launches the download manager and actually install it. As it works a little, I considéré it's not Tracktion fault.
Maybe it's Wayland vs X11.
Now, I have moved the vst3 folder from /home/.vst3/ to /usr/lib/vst3/ (where, for exemple, Vital is installed).
It worked once, and as I'm writing, it juste crashes.

O

On that gear, get settings open. And that button I circled with red, disable. When state is as show, it is disabled.
