I'll be trying this later tonight, or tomorrow morning, not that there's much difference
that caffeine can't fix

Did a short test in linux pre-release Reaper with LV2 support, placing
zyn chorus and zam reverb after the ampsim in Ubuntu 20.04,
choosing an Orange amp model, and 2x12 cab. It sounded fine, and switching
the various amps, controls, and effects in Reamp itself seemed convincing,
although I lack any serious knowledge to ID any commercial/hit-song tones.

The demo session runs 15 minutes before needing a reload, with save disabled.
At $40, the demo will probably speak to you, if it's something you'll use often.

Is this something similar as Guitarix or Amplitube? (I dont have the latter as it is not for linux, but I might have been interested....)

I'm a keys person, so sorry for my dumb question. I want to make metal stuff and I never understood why someone needed more than one amp (maybe someone can explain?). I appears to me as if e-guitars need amp simulations instead of the "traditional" effects for tone-tuning.

I tried the plugin and it is neat. Whoever put the tuning fork knob there is a genius!

*Update:* I bought it and will experiment with it to find out :) thank you for the tip!

All these ampsims and effects are used as art tools to make available all the nuances of
modern and historic music, every favorite song, performance, genre, and style.
Ampsims and plugins have many gui styles, made by devs with varying programming skills, and
different project goals. Each developer or team or company can choose their paths and goals,
and work the hours needed to achieve the desired success.

In linux Reaper daw, LV2 plugin support is getting better each week, so Guitarix
and the many gx plugins should be getting more use and exposure.

Amplitube is a well coded ampsim suite, and works in linux
with a modern wine-staging and reaper daw.
As a keys guy, there is the free version of IK's Syntronik you might try. (The new IK
authorization app may toss up a few wine error panels that can be dismissed,
with a short wait at a black screen before the app opens and is able to
complete the registration tasks.)

Reamp looks to be a good collection in a good interface, without much
rocket science needed, and whatever chains are created, the output can go
to other linux tools for more processing if desired, and everything recorded in one go
by timemachine, or other recording utilities.

Thank you for clarification, I learned a lot!
I will still have a lot to learn, and it is harder to experiment when having no electric guitar. (Although I have heard of Hammond organs being amplified by a guitar amp :>)

I still have problems with IKs sampletank showing me no cursor, so I didn't test amplitube for now. I had the same issues with Syntronik, and it is hard to use a software synth without seeing your cursor. I'm trying out vital for some time now :)

I have seen several other amps by audio assault for different purposes (metal tones etc., also at discount now), but it is still hard to grasp for me. I guess I need some presets and tweak them to learn more about it.

John Lord from Deep Purple.

There was an interview were he talked about it. To make the hammond sound more suiting for rock.

Sadly it seems to be taken off line.

There are vids though about making that sound with a hammond organ.
