Sononym sample browser

Post by davephillips »

Greetings,

https://www.sononym.net/

US$99 seems a bit steep to me, but it worked out of the box, does what it says it does, and does it pretty well. I had some audio issues before I realized it wasn't using Jack, all problems solved after updating the audio configuration.

I liked it. I have a big collection of samples and I need a good browser to manage them. Sononym is attractive enough to make me reach for my wallet, but I seem to recall an open-source equivalent (or something very similar). I'll look for it first and see if it can do the job as well as Sononym.

Btw, Sononym has a fully-functional 30-day trial version. Which is what I checked out on Fedora 23.

[Edit]: I found the open-source Samplecat, but after an hour trying to build it I gave up on it. It looks like something I could use if I could compile it, but I'm unwilling to put more time into it. :(
[Edit]: I lied. I was bored so I wound up getting it built. It works okay except for the waveform display (Peaks Not Found error for every soundfile tested), a rather significant exception.

Best,

dp

Looks useful. Do you have to input the category for each sample ? I guess not but then, does it do a good job at guessing the category ?

How much time did it took to process your samples ?

Can't wait to try this, I've been waiting for it to be released for a while.

Since it's made by Renoise then it gets extra attention. Renoise/Redux, like them or not, are very well-made softwares, with great care to details and fucntionality.

I just realized that there is a topic dedicated to the Sononym sample browser.

So maybe I'm necro-bumping (sorry if this is the case), but the software has just seen another major update:
https://www.sononym.net/blog/new-release-1.4.0/

* Search Across Libraries
* Find Duplicate Samples
* Filter By Multiple Categories
* Edit BPM & Note Properties
* Hide From Search Results
* Search: Exclude Term
* Additional Search Preferences
* Additional Columns in Search-Results
* Bug fixes and stability improvements

Note: the ability to Find Duplicate Samples is a killer feature if you're a sample pack creator.

This is great to hear! I just updated and all my settings, library etc is lost. I have a back up and that works but I can't really update.

First, maybe I am wrong here...but wav filed dont have meta tags like mp3's...or do they?
So, there is no easy way, even not with a software tool.
Maybe watch their video to see what the software does.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfKin1n_YaA

It is possible to store some additional data in wav files, but most likely there is no common practise what and how to store. So if making own tool, it would be possible to store information in files itself.
