[SOLVED] Aasimonster Ardour Template outdated?

Post by PernelCanic »

Hello DrumGizmoteers,

I'm getting my feet wet with DrumGizmo (and Linux music making in general) and would like to import the Ardour Template for the Aasimonster kit found here: https://drumgizmo.org/wiki/doku.php?id= ... _downloads

However when I'm in Ardour (6.5) in the template manager, click import and navigate to the folder where I downloaded the template I can not see the DrumGizmo-Aasimonster.tar.gz is not visible in the file chooser. Does Ardour expect a different file extension? Is there any way I can import it?

Thanks for any hints/tips. If it actually is outdated, but I can convert it or something I'd love to share it.

I think you need to extract it to be able to use it.

Yeah .tar.gz files are a compressed file type. Extract it to a folder of your choosing and enjoy
Search for Fusterclucker on your favorite streaming platforms to hear my awful music, and go visit my blog for my inane rants.

Thank you for your replies. However, extracting did not help: when I select the extracted folder and click "OK" in the import dialog, the file chooser will simply enter the subfolder. You can see what the folder looks like in the file browser on the right.

Inside the folder there is no file the file chooser recognizes as a file that it can import. Notice the "template archives" file type in the file type dropdown menu. So it seems that it actually expects some sort of archive.

However, the tar.gz is invisible so I guess it has the wrong file extension.

The template was made with an older version of Ardour (maybe as old as 4.x) so it could simply be a matter of Ardour no longer supporting templates that old?

Thanks for your help, guys. I got it working :-)

Turns out the template is not meant to be imported via Ardour's session template management. The feature probably didn't exist when the template was made.

After some digging I found out that Ardour keeps it's session templates in

Code: Select all

~/.config/ardour6/templates
. So I moved the extracted template folder there and started Ardour and it showed up.

Also the template provided me with what I was hoping to find: panned drum tracks.

After getting it to work I exported the session and attached it here so any follow-up users can simply import the session template. I had to zip it as the forum did not allow files of

Code: Select all

*.ardour-template-archive
to be uploaded.
