Drumgizmo interpreting noteoff as low velocity hit

Hey all, I posted this on the official IRC as well, but thought it might be easier to track here

I have just installed in drumgizmo on my Ubuntustudio machine and have set it up with Reaper and my Launchpad. Drumgizmo seems to interpret the noteoff events from the Launchpad as a low velocity hit. Is this expected behaviour? Is there anything I can configure to stop this?

Cheers in advance!

In any case you should be able to filter out note offs with MIDI Event Filter from the MIDI Filter Collection:
Block custom message -> 0 Note Off (0x8x)

This should certainly not be the case.

Which version of DrumGizmo are you using (you can e.g. check in the 'About' tab)? The newest version is 0.9.18.1.

If you are using the newest version, could you send us a MIDI file where this is the case such that we can try reproducing it?

Thanks, version is 0.9.17 so will try updating.

Experimentation has shown the following:
* Issue is confined to MIDI from the Launchpad only. MIDI from other sources is fine. MIDI file from Launchpad attached below.
* Other instruments triggered by Launchpad are fine - it is only DG that seems to respond in the manner
* The Launchpad uses a virtual MIDI output (provided by a Reaper extension) in order to provide visual (light feedback) to the Launchpad.
* The Lauchpad also has a 'real' MIDI output - MIDI from this is fine, it is only the virtual output that shows the issue
* The 'real' output however provide no visual feedback, therefore highly desirable to use the virtual one provided by the extension

So, it's definitely an artifact being introduced by the Launchpad extension (DrivenByMoss) however it's odd that other instruments don't respond in the same manner.

AFAIK instead of note off the MIDI standard allows note on with velocity 0 as well.

So it might be related to your pad's MIDI implementation.

Connect your keyboard to qmidiroute, and it will show what events your keyboard sends.

I had a look at the actual MIDI events coming through and it's definitely a 'noteoff' event that its responding to.

DrumGizmo: Hydrogen Drum kit won't load

Hi.

I tried to use DrumGizmo 0.9.18.1 as LV2 plugin.
Trying to load a Hydrogen drum kit.
It says: Loading...
But that's all.

Same on the VST version.

What am I dong wrong?

I did not try to load a/the Midimap file, as I don't know what, where it is.

Thanks in advance.

[First: you probably should start a new thread to keep this on topic.]

You have to use DG's own kits. I don't think you can use Hydrogen kits at all (unless you convert them).

Edited:

Sorry, I made a mistake thinking DrumGizmo would be DrMr Sampler.
So, my problem is solved now.

I just tried out your midi file in Reaper and Ardour with DrumGizmo 0.9.18.1 and I couldn't hear (nor see) the issue that you are talking about. Can you provide more information on how to reproduce this? Also, did you update to 0.9.18.1 and test?

It happens to me too, DrumGizmo 0.9.18.1 Linux VST 64-bit. I have a QuNexus controller. I figure it may be key pressure or aftertouch, but since I'm using Linux (and the QuNexus config software is for Windows) I haven't been able to confirm it.

Someone had mentioned it on this Reaper forum thread:

https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php ... ost2263382

I can minimize the effect using a velocity range control plugin before DrumGizmo.

I'll see if I can configure the controller on a Windows computer soon, to eliminate that variable.

I can reproduce it here now! Actually, I didn't hear it before because it was so silent and the hits in the notes in the midi file were very short, but I can see it in the debug output now.

And I have a preliminary (and probably final) fix. :)

Should be in the next release then.
