Electric Bass Sfz Instrument

Post by j_e_f_f_g »

Here's a nice electric bass played with a pick. Also slapped, popped, and muted articulations.

This is a very nice bass. Thanks, Jeff! Might I ask what kind of license this is released under, or at least the sample sources?

Didn't come with a license. The author simply made it available for download.

j_e_f_f_g, if you can tell me which of your many instruments are candidates for inclusion please let me know!

Anything you want on Glen's site at http://www.bandshed.net/sounds/sfz/

Licence files, when available, are placed in the same folder as the samples/sfz files. A majority of the stuff is Creative Commons. But a bit of the NBO is University of Iowa (vastly reworked to correct pitch, noise, dynamics, etc), physically modeling software, and my own synth patches to mimic acoustic instruments, (ie, Those string players aren't all real. And I had to conjure up tubas out of thin air). Go through folder by folder to extract what meets your requirements.

This is simply marvellous! I just downloaded and tried it and I think the bass and me will have a fruitful relationship with many new songs conceived. I love that it has all these articulations plus the noises.

If you like this bass, I've got literally dozens of other free quality SFZ instruments hosted at http://www.bandshed.net/sounds/sfz/ including the entire No Budget Orchestra (nbo_2.zip).

But I have an even better surprise project about to be unleashed in a few days.

@j_e_f_f_g Are your instruments open-sourced on GitHub?

I am the author of StudioRack https://github.com/studiorack (Free, open-source audio plugin manager)

Do you give permission for me to make a mirror (upload the sfz files and samples) on GitHub?

Not on github. They're hosted on GMaq's (the maintainer of AV Linux distro) web site.

You can do that if you want. But I should note that I'm currently in the process of turning my entire library of SFZ sampled instruments into LV2 virtual instrument plugins.

Do you have permission to redistribute these and turn them into instruments? Your answer earlier in the thread when asked about licenses was a bit vague.

Waveforms are separated into folders. The original licenses are included in their respective waveform folders, unless public domain. Since the waveforms are obtained from various sources, the terms of the licenses may be different. The vast majority are Creative Commons. All are redistributable. Consult the individual licenses for specific terms.

Take a look at Unfas video about Virtually Playing Orchestra, maybe that will give idea what various licensing means. 'Some CC' sounds like using these legally would be nightmare.
