I think he means Fluid GM soundfont with Calf Fluidsynth. Sonatina is in sfz format, not sf2.

Lyberta, in the sf2 folder that's in usr/share, I have these three files:

FluidR3 GM2-2.SF2

grand-piano-YDP-20160804.sf2

Sonatina_Symphonic_Orchestra.sf2

I don't have any sfz folder

Fluidsynth can't use SFZ format. From what I know, only SF2 works in fluidsynth. I really wish it would play SFZ instruments, I might be rid of LinuxSampler like *that* (/me snaps fingers).

As long as you know, is it sfz instead sf2 because the way it's written or other? Couldn't be the orchestra sound transposed, transformed to sf2?
Of course it depends on Paul who made it.

SFZ is a much more advanced format, supporting things like round robin samples, key switches, cross-fading, use of arbitrary midi cc events (example: mod wheel control). SF2 has velocity mapping and key mapping, and not much else.

one question: is it possible to play each instrument of the orchestra inside Ardour?
I don't know anything about about Ardour, but based on what Michael said, it looks like you need the .sf2 format rather than the .sfz format which is the format of Virtual Playing Orchestra, and the original format of Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra. It appears you may be using a version of Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra that was converted to sf2.

I was once asked if I would provide a .sf2 version of Virtual Playing Orchestra. I figure one version, by me will have to be enough, but from what you are saying, it seems like some of my hard work would be lost in the conversion if sf2 doesn't support round robin, key switches or cross fading. I feel those are essential.

You can use SFZ instruments in Ardour, but not with the fluid synth plugin, which specifically plays SF2 instruments and nothing else. To use SFZ instruments in Ardour, I use Linux Sampler, but it is a bit more tricky to set up.

True, Michael: I had completely removed the damn linuxsampler from my mind.
Noedig, that was a long story. Anyways I couldn't export any music with Michael's stuff. I've tried extensively but I dunno it doesn't work for me.
In the end, I've opted for the Sonatina.

You DO NOT have permission to sell, or repackage and sell this library in part or in whole
Nope, you use SFZ files from No Budget Orchestra and those are CC-BY-SA, therefore your edited versions of them are CC-BY-SA too and I can distribute them commercially.

Looks like you are right about the license so I've updated my web site but I still state my opinion that I feel it would be wrong to try to redistribute the samples commercially. Granted, my opinion is not legally binding.

Also, "accent" instruments seems to be broken in LinuxSampler, the sustain part doesn't stop after a few notes as if there was no Note Off event.

If you can name a specific note in a specific .sfz file I can take a look at it. Are there any accent notes that work properly? Do the notes from the "normal-mod-wheel" files work properly?
