Every couple weeks, I search the internet for new samples. This week I came across a rare find. It's a well recorded violin. Recorded in stereo. By a guy who knows how to play in tune, and has a well-maintained instrument.
That right there is an exception to the rule when it comes to free string samples. But there's more. He recorded every violin note. Nice long samples. And then he even did many articulations. There's legato (with and without vibrato), pizzicato (with and without vibrato), spiccato, and tremulo.
I've been working with this material, trimming attacks and releases, reducing hiss and extraneous noises, removing undesirable harmonics, evening out volume, tweaking tuning, etc. The result is probably the best free solo violin we''re going to find. I'm still working on the legato without vibrato, and tremulo. But here's part 1 with the other articulations.
This should be the solo violin in the Sonatina Symphony.

It's just an sfz file. Nothing to it. Consider it public domain.

This is really nice! Looking forward to part 2, tested part 1 out and it sounded pretty good. Too bad there won't be a staccato, but the spicatto (whatever that is, I know virtually nothing about these articulations 
) sounds almost equivalent I guess.

Right now, I'm trying out a new mapping setup that I hope will enable a realistic bowing technique (which is a large factor in getting a realistic violin sound). But it requires looping about 100 samples, and making 100 release samples, so this will take awhile.
