I wasn't trying to say otherwise, I was just explaining what "NIH" means.

Considering LinuxSampler weird license, I don't think moving away from it is a bad idea at all.

There' is nothing bad in moving away from LS (though I don't think its license is weird), but another one new sample format is evil IMHO. SFZ is a standard, more or less (not so popular as Kontakt, though), there are already lot of libraries available, but if we want to use them in $SAMPLERNAME we have to spend a lot of man-hours in convertation instead of writing music.

No, there are not a lot of sfz libraries. There are indeed very few, and especially very few good ones, which exclusively means commercial in the sample context.
For the general music making public sfz is neglectable.
And yes, Linuxsampler is out of the question anyway because it is proprietary.

For me every piece of software is a good thing. There can never be enough and diverse software. I don't see any problem in redundancy.

since we can't use Kontakt libraries in linux, SFZ is the only _more_or_less_ popular format we have, and i don't see anything can change this situation

LinuxSampler is licensed under the GNU GPL with the exception that USAGE of the source code, libraries and applications FOR COMMERCIAL HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE PRODUCTS IS NOT ALLOWED without prior written permission by the LinuxSampler authors. GPLv2 forbids adding extra restrictions. Never wondered why LinuxSampler isn't in Debian or Ubuntu?

I do regular chatting in #gnu on freenode and have an interest in licenses in general. From both of these sources I can tell you that it is misleading how Linuxsampler labels its software but it is correct according to the GPLv2 (without 'or higher') text.

I agree the LinuxSampler devs should have called that license something other than "GPL with one restriction", but that's another thing.
It's true though that LS license is *not* GPL and kinda incompatible with other GPL software.

What in its license is problematic? Debian doesn't contain linuxsampler so there is probably some non-free stuff in it.

I found the "exception"-part. Personally, I think it's still free software, however free enough for me.
