I don't know if this is actually a tabla, but it's an ethnic drum of some sort, played by palm:

I don't think that it is the Indian tabla. I don't hear sounds that I associate with that.

There is a drum sometimes called Egyptian tabla, a single-headed drum. I'm no percussion expert, but it reminds me of that.
