What are your favourite sample libraries (free preferred)
As above, i'm wanting to find some good sample libraries. I would prefer free but it's not essential if the libraries are good. So, what are your favourite libraries and what software do you use for loading them up on linux?

Re: What are your favourite sample libraries (free preferred
Currently, I'm using:
Bass guitar from http://translate.google.com/translate?s ... 2F&act=url
Piano from http://www.mediafire.com/mildonstudios#uxh5m6t6184p1
and Analogue Drums Big Mono (Free) http://www.analoguedrums.com/details-bm.php with the SFZ mapping from http://www.drealm.info/sfz/AnalogueDrums/
I use Sfozando player http://www.plogue.com/products/sforzando/ to play them.
@TheSafePlaces gives a lot of links here for sample resources: http://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic ... 203#p42372 and that whole thread will give you an idea of what the options are for samplers on Linux.

Re: What are your favourite sample libraries (free preferred
Not free and may be quite expensive for those with low income, but if you can afford $100, go with Studio Orchestra. To me, it sounded so good -- the violins, celli, violas, french horn, clarinet, and other non-synth instruments. A free sample library is Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra, but some instruments that can play in sustain mode do not sustain at all.
For Studio Orchestra, I recommend you go with Cakewalk Dimension LE/Pro PC version. Cakewalk Dimension is an SFZ player, but unlike any SFZ players in Windows, Linux, and Mac, Cakewalk Dimension features extra parameters to control (LE contains limited parameters if you don't care to edit the way they sound). If you open the Multi Samples folder, it contains a couple of SFZ files and a Samples folder. The Programs folder contains *.prog files that are specifically for Cakewalk Dimension LE/Pro. However, do note that the sample library will be found inside the .wine folder, a hidden folder in your preferred file manager. Plus, when you purchase Studio Orchestra and download and extract the ZIP file, you will see two EXE files. You will have to install Dimension LE first (only go with VST by deselecting DXi and RTAS as you won't need it), choose where you want to install your VST dll file (mine is /home/grayson/vst, or C:\users\grayson\vst), and install DSF Volume 5 Studio Orchestra (exe). You may need to uncheck Dimension Pro since you may not have it but check Dimension LE.
Once that is out of the way, you may want to give Dimension LE a try. I tried it and with about 12 instances of Dimension LE running in Festige (10 violins (1), 15 violin (2), violas, celli, contrabasses, brass ensemble, wind ensemble, kick drum, timpani, crash cymbal, and harp glissando), it works! It also works with Carla with dssi-vst and when the dll file is placed in the parent directory of .vst for Carla. Dimension LE also features a chorus effect using a Symphony preset and a nice-sounding reverb using a Concert Hall preset, so when you play a violin, viola, cello, or any orchestra instruments like brass and wind, it sounded really nice.
But if you don't care to use Dimension LE and want to use LinuxSampler or Carla, you can symbolically link the folder containing SFZ files to your home folder that you can easily reach. For example:
In Carla, make sure you add ~/Sample\ Libraries/ to your SFZ path. Of course, the negative side is that you will miss out in Dimension LE's high quality reverb.
Anyway, I really hope you guys can find some great high quality sample libraries out there in the web, but when it comes to orchestra, I really wouldn't bet in it as it can be expensive to make. Plus, there are sample libraries out there for free that get ripped off from commercial sample libraries -- just something to keep in mind. I really don't want to cause hard feelings to anyone.
So to go back to your question about what sample library I use, I previously used Sonatina Symphony Orchestra, but it isn't useful anymore. I really felt like going with a paid version just to get better sound out of musical instruments.

Re: What are your favourite sample libraries (free preferred
This is what I got in my bookmarks:
http://theremin.music.uiowa.edu/MIS.html
http://sampleswap.org/filebrowser-new.p ... d+RADIO%2F
http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/fre ... tis-217833
The sample libraries that I use the most are Salamander piano and Salamander drum kit. These are essential to me, and you can google them easily.
As for the loading part; I load sfz and gig samples in Linux Sampler, while other samples like rhytms, effects etc. directly on their respective tracks in the DAW that I'd use, which is Ardour most of the time.
Cheers!

Don't know if there's the right topic here, but who cares
I just found another one nice sounding free (as a beer) mellotron m400 sample library.
http://www.premiersoundfactory.com/modu ... r-p-3.html (registration and some personal data required, though).
There are no sfz/sf2/gigs out of the box (exs24mkII | Kontakt3 | Structure patches only), but it was easy to make sfz mappings myself (just put sfz files to /somewhere/PREMIER SOUND FACTORY Sampling/MELLOTRON Premier/sfz/):

not sure what kind of samples you're looking for but attack has a number of free (as in beer) sample packs geared towards electronic music. Here's one and there are links on that page to other ones as well.

Searching for libraries i found this site, maybe could be helpful for the creation of a good orchestral library.

The problem with Phillharmonia is that the samples are mp3 which is a bad choice for a sample library. Also they only have notes and not other sounds you'd need like release samples.

Hi,
As an additional resource there is a similar thread on the AV Linux forum, I'm sure there are some duplicates but if not it may expand the options:
