Thanks for the tip. The OB-X is a very nice classic polyphonic synth. See:

OB-Xd source is licensed under the GPL-3.0 and is therefore free regardless of whether you're a commercial entity or not. https://github.com/reales/OB-Xd/blob/master/license.txt

Please change the title of this thread, there's already enough false information about linux / audio / foss.
If one skims this topic without further reading you would think that obxd is limited in its use in some way, which is exactly the opposite of what free software is supposed to be.
Also, obxd was already released before disco-dsp "required" it.

Re: disco dsp obx xd 2.4 free for used not commercial
If you compile it from source, then it absolutely is free for any use case. But does that apply to a distributed binary? I mean, selling binaries of open source projects is fairly common. Look at Ardour for example. So if it's all right to restrict access to a binary, then by that logic, I would assume that other restrictions could be placed on those binaries as well, right? (That said, for the record, I'm definitely not a fan of how DiscoDSP is marketing it and they should just make it unconditionally free...)

Re: disco dsp obx xd 2.4 free for used not commercial
By telling people how to use it. I mean, that's basically literally what licensing is... Of course there might not be any realistic way to *enforce* those rules, but that's another matter...
What I'm saying is, the source code is obviously GPL, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the terms of the GPL apply to the binary. It's open *source* software, not open *binary* software... But I'm absolutely not an expert on the legal issues here, so take my speculation with a grain of salt!
Now, if someone else were to compile their own version of it, and distribute that for free, there would be absolutely no issues with that, as far as I understand it... Just sayin'... (I mean, I know there already is a version of OB-Xd in KXStudio and other repositories, but as far as I can tell, that's the pre-DiscoDSP version of it, so there may be slight differences, at least superficially.)
